Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Caidan Cartwright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steel Penn!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cartwright slips a jab and a cross from Penn.
Cartwright has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Penn.
Penn looks to throw the jab but Cartwright is out of range.
Cartwright shoots in but Penn avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Cartwright takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Caidan Cartwright has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cartwright showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Penn.
Penn throws out a powerful jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cartwright moves out of range of the body kick from Penn.

Cartwright dives in and scores a takedown into Penn's guard.
Cartwright lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Cartwright prevents Penn from getting back to his feet.

Cartwright slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cartwright accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Cartwright drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cartwright jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Cartwright throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Penn works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Cartwright lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Cartwright working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Penn's head.
Cartwright throws a big elbow that misses.
Cartwright postures up in Penn's guard and throws a big left but Penn blocks it.
Cartwright is looking to work some ground and pound but Penn has wrist control.
Penn is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cartwright with a flurry of punches that miss.
Cartwright advances to half guard.

Cartwright is looking for a kimura but Penn is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cartwright to get the leverage.
Cartwright is trying to control the action in half guard but Penn is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Cartwright working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Cartwright looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Cartwright landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Cartwright is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Cartwright tries to pass the half guard into mount. Penn knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Penn can do anything to dispel that myth.

Penn is defending against the submission attempts here by Cartwright.
Cartwright throwing shots but Penn is blocking nicely.

Penn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cartwright. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cartwright lands a nice short elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Penn scoring well with a low kick there.
Cartwright shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Cartwright shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Penn manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Cartwright throws a strike but Penn rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Cartwright looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Cartwright working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Cartwright is tightening it up a little... Penn has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Penn reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Penn taps out! Nice BJJ there by Cartwright!
