PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight kickboxing rules bout between Anders Silver (ranked 6824 p4p, 438 weight class) and Ross Buchanan (ranked 24839 p4p, 439 weight class). Buchanan has chosen Roy Buchanan's Train Blues as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anders Silver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
15 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ross Buchanan!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Ben Watson and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buchanan tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Silver is able to avoid easily.
Silver tried to counter with a leg kick but Buchanan avoided it.
Buchanan displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Silver throws out the jab.
Silver pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Buchanan tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Buchanan throws a body shot but no joy.
Silver tries to counter by clinching up but Buchanan breaks away and moves out of range.
Buchanan swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A counter left hand to the body from Silver misses its target.
Buchanan stalks Silver and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Silver's face. Silver staggers backwards, shaken.
Silver slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silver clinches up with Buchanan and pushes him back against the ropes.
Silver throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Buchanan blocks it with crossed arms.
Buchanan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

And Silver counters with a quick kick to the body but Buchanan blocks it.

Buchanan is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Silver.
Buchanan tries to bum rush Silver with a series of wild strikes but Silver uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Silver is looking to counter the offense by Buchanan and move into the clinch.
Silver wants to clinch up but Buchanan keeps it at a distance.
Buchanan scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Buchanan digs a good body shot into Silver's ribs.
The fight stays on the outside here - Silver looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Silver is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Ross Buchanan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silver jabs Buchanan right on the nose. Buchanan blinks but takes it well.
Buchanan connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

It looked like Silver wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Silver missing with a left hand there. Buchanan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close round but Ross Buchanan will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

It looks like Silver has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Silver takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Buchanan throws a right and a left that both miss.
Buchanan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Silver manages to avoid it.
Silver takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Buchanan is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Silver rather than just go for the knockout.

Ross Buchanan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Buchanan pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Silver back to the ropes. Buchanan follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Silver is rocked!
Silver walks straight into devastating uppercut and drops to the floor, clearly wobbled! Can he beat the count? 4,5,6,7... he's up! And he's down again! The ref steps in and calls an end to the fight! What a punch that was!

During a confident post fight interview, Ross Buchanan thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
