Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tyson James (ranked 1248 p4p, 58 weight class) and Ricco McGregor (ranked 4157 p4p, 144 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyson James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricco McGregor!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James walks into a jab.
McGregor cracks a nice hook into James's ribs.
McGregor connects with a body shot.
McGregor with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
James drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
James looks for a takedown but McGregor sprawls well.
McGregor thows a leg kick but James checks it

and James counters with a shoot takedown. McGregor fights it but they end up in guard.
James missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
McGregor is trying to control the position from the bottom.
James postures up in McGregor's guard and throws a big left but McGregor blocks it.
James not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
McGregor is looking to stand up but James isn't so interested in that idea.
James might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

James drops back looking for a leg! McGregor is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and McGregor manages to kick James off! James jumps back into McGregor's guard.
James has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

McGregor is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

James drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and James jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
James moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
James takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
James is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.

James manages to get an easy takedown there - catching McGregor on his heels. He'll look to pass McGregor's guard now, I'm sure.

James throws a strike but McGregor rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

McGregor wants to get up but he can't break James's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

James tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as James holds on and takes a little breather.
James wants to sweep but no luck.
James pulls McGregor in close to his closed guard and prevents McGregor from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
McGregor works over James's head and body with a nice combination.

James closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
James moves into full mount!

James is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But McGregor has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from McGregor!
My spies in Doom's Gym inform me that McGregor has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
James is controlling McGregor's posture.

Ricco McGregor dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McGregor lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
McGregor throws a quick inside leg kick.
McGregor misses with a few strikes there.
McGregor has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
McGregor lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
McGregor throws the left hand but James avoids the punch easily.
James appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
James closes this distance looking for a takedown but McGregor circles away.
James throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McGregor's waist but McGregor gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing James off to one side.
James tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McGregor swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyson James. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McGregor.
McGregor throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck James on the side of the head.
McGregor just misses with a punch to the body.
McGregor scores with a nice body kick.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McGregor lands a nice shot that snaps James's head back.

McGregor throws a combination. James tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts McGregor, as that shot connected.
McGregor looks to land a left hand but James moved out of range nicely.
McGregor is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Nice defenses there by James.
James shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has McGregor pinned against the cage. McGregor gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
James shoots in for a takedown but McGregor shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
James avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
McGregor displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from James.
James tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but McGregor defends well and James ends up having to push McGregor into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
James fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ricco McGregor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGregor punishes James's body with a nice straight punch.
McGregor connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed James momentarily.
McGregor bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps James's head backwards.

James shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches McGregor napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

James is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. McGregor knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

James tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

James is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McGregor is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

James has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

McGregor gets in close and instigates a clinch.
McGregor throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Jamess head.

McGregor escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McGregor throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
McGregor looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
McGregor has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
James walks into a stiff left hand from McGregor.
McGregor leaves James with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
McGregor lands a lovely overhand right.

Nice shot lands for McGregor.
McGregor throws a shot to the body.
McGregor comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

James won't allow McGregor to sweep him here.

James thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

James is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
James passes McGregor's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricco McGregor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


McGregor scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
James shoots in looking for a takedown. McGregor tries to sprawl out of it but James keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McGregor manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The fighters circle momentarily. McGregor darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
James takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
James misses with a takedown attempt - McGregor sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
James has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from James there as he acknowledges the shot.
Ricco McGregor seems to be getting the better of the standup.

James doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

James throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. McGregor was covering up waiting for the punch and James finishes the takedown easily into guard.

It looks like Ricco McGregor has been cut.
McGregor avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Tyson James overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

James shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McGregor as he jumps to the side.
Tyson James has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ricco McGregor is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

McGregor misses with a head kick.
James takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
McGregor throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
James fails with the takedown.
A solid leg kick lands there for McGregor.
James will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McGregor displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from James.
James looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
McGregor cracks James with an open hand slap.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
McGregor uses good head movement to avoid the hook from James.
McGregor lands a leg kick that knocks James off balance momentarily.

Ricco McGregor comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got McGregor winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After winning the bout, Ricco McGregor thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
Tyson James was interviewed post fight and said 'When I am defeated, I stay humble. I was defeated by the better man today. I wish Fray the best in his future title defenses. I will return to the top and get that belt! '.
