PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Riley Pierce (ranked 2937 p4p, 327 weight class) and Rigel Ko Nachi (ranked 2323 p4p, 271 weight class). Pierce kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Thunder Rolls. Ko Nachi has chosen Sitting In Limbo as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rigel Ko Nachi has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Riley Pierce's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rigel Ko Nachi!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Francis DeMontford and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pierce on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Ko Nachi. Ko Nachi obviously looking to wear him down.
Pierce rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Ko Nachi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
A combination from Pierce does no damage.
Pierce looks to land a right hand but Ko Nachi moved out of range.

Ko Nachi throws a looping overhand right but Pierce ducks down to avoid it.

and Ko Nachi counters with a straight right hand.


It looks like Riley Pierce has been cut.

Pierce throws a hook to the side of Ko Nachi's head but Ko Nachi sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ko Nachi staying out of range there.

Ko Nachi on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Pierce looks to land a combination but Ko Nachi avoids it well.
The fighters circling - Ko Nachi throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Pierce is looking to clinch but Ko Nachi is avoiding it.
Pierce misses with a lunging right hand
and Ko Nachi counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Pierce lands an overhand right.
Pierce just misses with a punch to the body.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Ko Nachi.
Pierce blocks the body kick.
Ko Nachi wants to slow Pierce down by chopping away at his legs.
Pierce shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ko Nachi pinned against the cage. Ko Nachi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Ko Nachi looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Sloppy strikes from Pierce. Those never looked like landing.

Ko Nachi slips under a jab.
Rigel Ko Nachi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ko Nachi feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Pierces jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pierce shoots in and drives through. Ko Nachi sprawls well.
Pierce throws a hook but Ko Nachi blocks it.
Pierce misses with a takedown attempt - Ko Nachi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ko Nachi bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Pierce's head.
Ko Nachi defending well as Pierce loads up on a big left hand.
Pierce tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ko Nachi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pierce somewhat.

It seemed like Ko Nachi was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Ko Nachi takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Pierce throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ko Nachi was covering up waiting for the punch and Pierce finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ko Nachi wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Pierce postures up in Ko Nachi's guard and throws a big left but Ko Nachi blocks it.
Ko Nachi pulls Pierce in close to prevent any damage.
Pierce stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ko Nachi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pierce is looking to work some ground and pound but Ko Nachi has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ko Nachi is pulling down on Pierce's head. It's preventing any offense from Pierce, at least for the moment.
Pierce trying to control but Ko Nachi is working from the bottom.

Ko Nachi seems keen to control Pierce's posture.
Pierce is looking to pass into half guard but Ko Nachi pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Ko Nachi is in guard.

Ko Nachi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Pierce escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ko Nachi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ko Nachi sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pierce's guard.
Pierce tries to get to full guard but Ko Nachi has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rigel Ko Nachi dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Riley Pierce's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Pierce looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ko Nachi is fending him off so far but Pierce persists. Nope, Ko Nachi circles away and we're back to standing.
Riley Pierce seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ko Nachi throws a right hand that Pierce ducks under and follows up with a left that Pierce also avoids with ease.
Rigel Ko Nachi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Pierce ducks under a wild hook from Ko Nachi.
Pierce shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ko Nachi as he jumps to the side.
Pierce throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pierce is defended easily by Ko Nachi.

and Ko Nachi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ko Nachi moves out of range of the strikes.

Pierce shoots for a takedown but Ko Nachi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Pierce misses with a body shot.
A telegraphed right hand from Pierce misses the target.
Pierce throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ko Nachi's waist but Ko Nachi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pierce off to one side.
Ko Nachi lands a slapping body shot.

Ko Nachi clinches up with Pierce and pushes him back against the cage.
Pierce is looking to take this one to the mat.
Ko Nachi struggles to land a body shot inside as Pierce controls his hands.
Ko Nachi scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Ko Nachi digs a right hand underneath Pierce's ribcage. Pierce let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Ko Nachi creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Ko Nachi lands a shoulder strike.


Pierce is rocked!
Pierce's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Oh Pierce is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ko Nachi stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
I was talking to Pierce's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Ko Nachi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ko Nachi throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Ko Nachi.
Ko Nachi digs a right hand underneath Pierce's ribcage. Pierce let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Ko Nachi lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Ko Nachi lands a hook to the side of the head.
Ko Nachi lands with a left to the head.
Pierce is working for takedown but Ko Nachi is calmly controlling the position for now.
Ko Nachi scores with a hook to the body.
Ko Nachi is pushing Pierce up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Ko Nachi working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Ko Nachi dips a shoulder and cracks Pierce with a mighty uppercut! Pierce falls back against the cage and Ko Nachi unloads with a barrage of strikes! Pierce is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Ko Nachi screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rigel Ko Nachi!

In defeat, Riley Pierce stepped up to the mic, saying 'Ya know, I just felt bad for the man. I mean, it looked like he needed the win more than I did, so what the hell, charity and all man! You're welcome.'.
