Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Starman (ranked 883 p4p, 112 weight class) and Sergey Burenkov (ranked 998 p4p, 127 weight class). Starman comes into the arena with David Bowie - Starman blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Starman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergey Burenkov!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burenkov throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Starman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Burenkov moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Burenkov throws a looping overhand right but Starman ducks down to avoid it.
Starman fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Burenkov takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Starman connects with a body shot.
Burenkov throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Starman with a nice cross.
Nice straight punches there by Starman. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Starman.
A looping hook to the body misses from Burenkov. Starman does a little dance to reset his feet.
Burenkov lands with a shot to the body.
Burenkov avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Starman fails with an attempt to clinch.
Starman jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Burenkov tries to close the distance and clinch but Starman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Burenkov has Starman pressed against the cage, preventing Starman from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Burenkov tries to work over Starman's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Starman lands with a left to the head.
Burenkov blocks an uppercut.
Starman can't find room to land a body shot as Burenkov controls the action.

Starman swings wildly with an uppercut but Burenkov uses good head movement to avoid it.

Burenkov has picked Starman up - he's going for a ride! Burenkov dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Burenkov is looking for a kimura here.
Starman's coaches at Team Beta Fail have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Burenkov seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Starman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Burenkov is thwarting Starman's attempts to control the position.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Starman holds on and takes a little breather.
Burenkov cracks Starman with a solid left hand.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burenkov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Starman winds up and cracks Burenkov with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Burenkov with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Starman to score with a decent uppercut.

The crowd cheers as Starman lands an impressive looking overhand right. Burenkov doesn't seem phased though.

Starman has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Burenkov regains guard immediately.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Starman wants to control from the top but Burenkov keeps moving.
Starman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Burenkov can do to turn this around?

Starman sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Burenkov doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Starman paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Burenkov - great work!
