PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Vigo (ranked 2188 p4p, 293 weight class) and Patrick Bower (ranked 1899 p4p, 252 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Don Vigo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Patrick Bower!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Daniel Blasius and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vigo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bower swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Bower lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Bower rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Vigo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Bower lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Vigo ducks under a wild hook from Bower.
Horrible takedown attempt by Vigo or perhaps it was just good defense by Bower, which made it look bad.
Bower tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Bower keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Vigo shoots in looking for a takedown but Bower manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Vigo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vigo fails to land with a series of punches.
Bower cracks Vigo with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Bower looks to score with a jab to the body but Vigo is just out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Bower misses the target.
Vigo rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Vigo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Bower blocks a jab.
Bower now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Vigo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bower moves away.
Patrick Bower is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bower misses with a body shot.
Vigo swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Bower swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Vigo counters with a nice uppercut.
Vigo lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Bower lands a nice looking body shot.
Vigo throws a body punch but Bower moves out of range.
Bower misses with an uppercut. Vigo saw that one coming.
Bower uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Vigo.
Bower looks to land a left hand but Vigo moved out of range nicely.
Vigo throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Bower throws a poor cross that misses
and Vigo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vigo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bower but Bower pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Don Vigo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bower thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Vigo if he has to take too many more of those.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bower does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Bower throws a head kick but Vigo moves out of range.
Vigo is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Vigo misses with a hook
and Bower counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Vigo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Bower comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Donk. Vigo catches Bower right on the button with a cross.
Vigo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bower.
Bower scores with a nice strike.
Vigo dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Vigo misses with a right hand
enabling Bower to counter with a crisp jab.
Vigo swings widly with a right hand
and Bower counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Vigo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Vigo avoids the body shot from Bower.
Vigo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bower.
Vigo half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
A jab from Vigo finds it's way through Bower's defenses.
The fighters circling - Vigo throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Vigo jabs Bower right on the nose. Bower blinks but takes it well.
Vigo with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Bower swings for the body but Vigo moves out of range.
Bower dips to his left and cracks Vigo with an uppercut!
Vigo misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bower's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Vigo connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Bower scrambles back to his feet.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bower throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Vigo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bower manages to avoid it.
Bower dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Vigo moves out of range as Bower strikes.
Nice defenses there by Vigo.

Vigo looking to score a takedown here. Bower is defending well but Vigo drives through and ends up in Bower's guard.
Vigo trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Vigo is looking to work some ground and pound but Bower has wrist control.
Vigo stopping the sweep attempt from Bower.
Vigo makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Bower really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vigo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Vigo throws a big elbow that misses.
Vigo passes Bower's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vigo lands a nice short elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Patrick Bower will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Bower replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Vigo blocks it well.

Vigo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bower defends it nicely.

It looked like Vigo was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Bower.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vigo takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Patrick Bower seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Vigo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bower to the mat! Bower manages to get full guard.

Bower is trying to control the position but Vigo postures up.

Vigo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bower works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Vigo postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Bower is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Vigo working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Bower's head.
Vigo with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Bower wants to sweep but no luck.
Vigo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bower is keeping the position for now.
Vigo lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Vigo wants to pass the guard but Bower is keeping the position.
Don Vigo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Vigo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Vigo trying to control the position from guard on top but Bower is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Vigo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vigo is in close to Bower's body, working some short punches and elbows.
We've been hearing that Vigo has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Bower looking to hit a scissor sweep but Vigo is one step ahead there.
Vigo lands a couple of elbows.
Vigo's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Bower keeping moving, preventing Vigo from controlling successfully.

Vigo pushes down on Bower's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Vigo works his foot free and advances to mount.

Bower wants to control but Vigo is having none of it.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Vigo cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Vigo throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Bower has his hands clasped together but Vigo breaks the hold and Bower is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Vigo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Don Vigo!
During a confident post fight interview, Don Vigo thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
