Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trevor Lahey (ranked 7049 p4p, 532 weight class) and Edward Tonu (ranked 6513 p4p, 517 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Trevor Lahey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Edward Tonu!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Dmitry Maklakov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tonu keeps the fight on the outside.

Tonu bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Lahey bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Tonu shoots and misses
and Lahey counters with a left and a right that stings Tonu.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tonu tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lahey swivels and escapes.
Edward Tonu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tonu looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lahey is fending him off so far but Tonu persists. Nope, Lahey circles away and we're back to standing.
Trevor Lahey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edward Tonu.

Tonu feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Lahey pushes Tonu off and gets back to his feet.
Tonu circles away from the clinch attempt.
Lahey is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Tonu looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Tonu shoots in for a takedown but Lahey shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tonu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lahey swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lahey wants to stand up but Tonu is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tonu controlling from the top position.
Tonu throws a big right hand that misses.
Lahey working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Tonu.

Tonu decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Lahey, up you get!
Lahey tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tonu manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Lahey takes the fight into the clinch.
Lahey is pressed up against the cage. Tonu has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lahey down to the mat. Lahey avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Tonu fails to land the takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Tonu closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Tonu lands in his opponent's guard.
Tonu working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Lahey's head.

Tonu makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Tonu trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Lahey avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Tonu has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Tonu stops Lahey from standing up.
Tonu in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Lahey can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Tonu controls the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tonu trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Tonu seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Lahey wants to get back to his feet but Tonu is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Lahey trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Lahey gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Tonu.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tonu closes the distance and clinches up with Lahey, looking for a takedown. Tonu pushes Lahey against the cage but Lahey circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Tonu tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lahey defends well and Tonu ends up having to push Lahey into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Lahey tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tonu swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Tonu gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Lahey has a couple of punches blocked by Tonu.
Still in the clinch, Lahey scores with a nice short uppercut.
Tonu goes for a takedown attempt but Lahey pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Tonu shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lahey sprawls well. Lahey wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tonu gets slowly back to his feet.
Tonu keeps the fight on the outside.
Lahey wants to clinch.

Tonu feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Trevor Lahey will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Tonu has an Americana. Lahey didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Tonu is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Tonu hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Edward Tonu!
