PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Jones Jr (ranked 1114 p4p, 156 weight class) and Long Hung Dong (ranked 1250 p4p, 175 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Jones Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Long Hung Dong!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Bruno Lombardi and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones Jr blocks a low kick nicely.
Jones Jr throws a lazy right hand but Dong sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Dong turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
An inside leg kick from Dong misses.
Jones Jr ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dong moves away.
Jones Jr with a hook.
Dong misses with a low kick.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Jones Jr defending well as Dong loads up on a big left hand.
A telegraphed right hand from Dong misses the target.
Jones Jr looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Dong tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dong throws a low kick but Jones Jr moves out of range easily.
Dong takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Dong connects with a body shot that sends Jones Jr's belly button to the back.
Long Hung Dong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones Jr displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Dong throws out the jab.
Dong throws out a leg kick but Jones Jr moves out of range and Dong only half commits.
Dong attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Jones Jr pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Jones Jr on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Dong misses with a body kick.
Jones Jr misses with a looping right.
Dong ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jones Jr moves away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dong pivots, looking for a leg kick but Jones Jr is out of range and Dong settles back down.

Dong throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Jones Jr walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Nice body punch from Jones Jr.
A punch lands to the side of Dong 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Jones Jr moves out of range of the body kick.
Dong displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jones Jr throws out the jab.

Jones Jr appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Dong moves forwards but Jones Jr connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Dong takes one to the side of the head.
Jones Jr missing with a left hand there. Dong was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Dong lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Jones Jr shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jones Jr showed some decent athleticism there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dong is trying to control but Jones Jr manages to pass to mount!

Jones Jr lands a nice shot to the head.
Dong has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Jones Jr lands a heavy elbow.
Jones Jr looking to control but Dong is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Jones Jr is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Jones Jr lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Jones Jr working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Dong is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones Jr has a good base and remains in mount.
Jones Jr fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jones Jr looking for a guillotine from mount but Dong is having none of it.
Jones Jr working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Dong bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Dong trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jones Jr has control of Dong's left arm, preventing Dong from doing any damage.
Jones Jr lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones Jr with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones Jr wants to control from the top but Dong keeps moving.

Jones Jr stands up over Dong, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Dong had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jones Jr defends it easily.
Jones Jr is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Dong is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones Jr accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dong has momentary wrist control but Jones Jr slips an elbow through the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Jones Jr dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jones Jr throws a shot from downtown. Dong moves away and avoids it.
Dong misses with a leg kick.
Dong ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jones Jr moves away.
Jones Jr closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Jones Jr uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Dong.
Jones Jr swings for the body but Dong moves out of range.
Dong throws a hook but Jones Jr avoids it easily.
Dong throws a low kick but it's checked well by Jones Jr.
Dong pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Dong goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Jones Jr throws a body shot but no joy.
Jones Jr scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Dong bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Jones Jr's head backwards.
Good leg kick by Dong there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones Jr. Dong does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jones Jr takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Dong uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jones Jr.
That kick from Dong tenderised Jones Jr's leg. Jones Jr is trying to keep his angry face on.
Jones Jr lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Jones Jr tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dong paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Long Hung Dong seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Dong moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Jones Jr closes the distance and clinches.
Jones Jr wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dong has him pressed against the cage.

Jones Jr gets control of Dong's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jones Jr will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Jones Jr is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dong is aware though and is defending well.
Dong trying to control but Jones Jr is working from the bottom.

Jones Jr is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Dong rolls with it to try and escape but Jones Jr cranks on the arm and Dong is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
