PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Abner Applegate (ranked 124 p4p, 22 weight class) and Vyrkyx Dall (ranked 286 p4p, 47 weight class). Dall has chosen Art of War - Sabaton as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Abner Applegate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vyrkyx Dall!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Applegate throws a nice outside leg kick.
Nice uppercut there from Applegate.
Applegate has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Applegate throws a low kick, looking for Dall's leg but Dall calmly moves out of range.
Applegate rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dall moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Applegate misses the jab.
Applegate connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Dall momentarily.
Dall slips a straight right by Applegate.
Dall avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Applegate stalks Dall and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Dall's face. Dall staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Vyrkyx Dall has been cut.

Applegate rushes Dall and presses him up against the cage.
Dall working aggressively here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Applegate tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A left hand lands to the body for Dall.
Applegate lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Dall or not.
Dall misses with the head strike.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Applegate.
Applegate can't find room to land a body shot as Dall controls the action.

Dall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Applegate is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Dall changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Dall shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Applegate wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Dall manages to pass to side control.

Dall is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Applegate moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Dall is pushing down on Applegate's leg trying to pass to half guard. Applegate is fighting to maintain full guard but Dall has managed to sneak the leg through.

Dall is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Dall is looking for a kimura but Applegate is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dall to get the leverage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Dall is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Applegate moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Applegate throws a body punch but Dall moves out of range.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Dall! But no joy.

Dall swats away the attempt to clinch by Applegate.
Dall misses the shot to the body.
Applegate scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Applegate tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dall was well out of range. Poor timing from Applegate.
Dall tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Dall blocks a head kick by Applegate.

Applegate closes the distance and clinches.
Dall tries to throw a body punch but Applegate avoids it by throwing Dall back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Applegate struggles to land a body shot inside as Dall controls his hands.

Applegate wants the takedown. Dall is fighting it off but Applegate persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Dall's guard against the cage.

Dall working for a triangle but Applegate defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dall has his foot on Applegate's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Applegate works his way back into a safe position though.

Dall working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Applegate has passed into half guard!

Applegate moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Dall.
Abner Applegate overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Applegate trying to control the position but Dall is working away.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Dall is looking for a sweep.

Dall sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Dall manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Applegate uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Dall.
Dall looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Applegate is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Applegate works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Dall tries to break free but Applegate pushes him back against the cage.
Applegate keeps control of Dall as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Applegate blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Dall lands a left hand.
Dall can't find room to land a body shot as Applegate controls the action.
Applegate blocks an uppercut.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dall working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Applegate tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Applegate lands a left hand that snaps the head of Dall backwards.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Applegate lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Dall backwards.

That's time! Applegate's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Applegate stuffs the takedown attempt from Dall. Dall gets slowly back to his feet.
Some bone on bone action there as Dall checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
A decent looking cross lands there for Applegate.
Applegate throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nice defenses there by Applegate.
Dall connects with a single shot there.
Dall moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Applegate connects with a solid leg kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Applegate. Dall does a little dance to reset his feet.

Applegate misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
And Dall tries to counter it with a takedown but Applegate pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Good work by Applegate as he checks the leg kick.
Applegate fires out a quick counter leg kick but Dall just manages to avoid it.
Applegate tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Applegate catches Dall with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Abner Applegate is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Applegate throws a lazy right hand but Dall sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Dall walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Applegate checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Nice cross by Dall.
Applegate missing with a left hand there. Dall was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Applegate darts in trying to clinch
and Dall counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Dall shoots in for a takedown but Applegate shows good takedown defense.
Applegate misses with the combination.
Applegate scores with a sloppy right hand. Dall should have avoided that one.
Vyrkyx Dall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Dall keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
And Dall tries to counter it with a takedown but Applegate pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Applegate connects with a solid leg kick.

Dall throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Applegate was covering up waiting for the punch and Dall finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Applegate uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Abner Applegate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dall throws the left hand but Applegate avoids the punch easily.
Applegate tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A head kick misses from Dall.
Applegate scores with a jab.
Applegate scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.


Dall is rocked!


That has opened up Vyrkyx Dall's cut even more.
Applegate fires a straight punch through the middle that cracks Dall square on the jaw! Damn, Dall is out cold on his feet and topples face first to the canvas! Wow, I haven't seen a knockout that brutal in a long time!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Abner Applegate!
