PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Konstantinos Nevrakis (ranked 899 p4p, 113 weight class) and James Smith (ranked 829 p4p, 104 weight class). Nevrakis kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Winds of Ithaca. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Konstantinos Nevrakis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Smith!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Donatello Bradman and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nevrakis misses with a wild body shot.
A countering left hand to the body from Smith misses.
Smith doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

A nice side step and Smith releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

It looks like Konstantinos Nevrakis has been cut.
A jab from Nevrakis does it's job there.
Smith steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Nevrakis.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nevrakis throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Smith's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Nevrakis connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Smith scrambles back to his feet.

As Smith tries to get set, Nevrakis tries to push him back and clinch up but Smith manages to avoid the attempt.

and Smith counters with a stiff right hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Smith! But no joy.
Smith has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Nevrakis misses with a double jab.
Smith lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Nevrakis throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith.
Nevrakis throws out a loose jab but Smith uses good head movement to avoid it.
Smith doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Nevrakis looks to score with a jab to the body but Smith is just out of range.
Nevrakis misses with a hook. Smith ducked under it nicely.
Nevrakis takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

A looping hook to the body misses from Smith. Nevrakis does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nevrakis walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Smith is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Nevrakis's half guard.

Oh Nevrakis is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Nevrakis throws a series of punches but Smith moves out of range.
James Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nevrakis throws the left hand but Smith avoids the punch easily.
Nevrakis seems to have got his legs back now.

Smith drops Nevrakis with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Nevrakis looks back up at him and smiles so Smith waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Smith closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Smith lands some shots froms side control.
A big shot lands for Smith! That's hurt Nevrakis! Will he recover? Smith fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
