PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Malaki Fiso (ranked 317 p4p, 39 weight class) and Ivan Volkov (ranked 674 p4p, 81 weight class). Fiso kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Lord's Prayer (In Samoan). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Malaki Fiso!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Volkov!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Volkov rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Volkov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Volkov swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Fiso counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Volkov throws out a loose jab but Fiso uses good head movement to avoid it.
Fiso jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Fiso looks to land a right hand but Volkov moved out of range.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Fiso. Volkov shrugs it off though.
Fiso pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Volkov looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Fiso is looking to chop away at Volkov's legs.
A nice leg kick lands there from Fiso.

Volkov moves into range and clinches up with Fiso.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Fiso throws a punch but it's blocked by Volkov.
Volkov blocks a body shot from Fiso.
Fiso misses with some punches.

Fiso breaks from the clinch.
Fiso clobbers Volkov with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Fiso is looking to clinch.
Fiso connects with an inside leg kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Volkov throws a hook to the side of Fiso's head but Fiso sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fiso slips under a jab.
Volkov shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Fiso throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A swing and a miss from Volkov.
Volkov missing with a left hand there. Fiso was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Fiso showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Volkov.
Fiso moves out of range of the strikes.
Nice sprawl there from Fiso as Volkov shoots in.
Fiso lands a leg kick that knocks Volkov off balance momentarily.
Fiso has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Fiso throws a leg kick but Volkov sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Fiso swings for the body but Volkov moves out of range.
Fiso takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Fiso darts in and clinches Volkov up against the ropes.

Volkov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Volkov scores with a nice head shot.
Volkov shoots for a takedown but Fiso saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Fiso lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Fiso sizes up Volkov with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Fiso tries to close the distance and clinch up but Volkov swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Volkov fails with an attempt to clinch.

Volkov takes a kick to the side of the head.
Volkov lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Fiso cracks Volkov with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
No luck for Volkov with that takedown attempt.
Fiso tries to counter by clinching up but Volkov breaks away and moves out of range.
Malaki Fiso has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ivan Volkov.

Volkov clinches with his opponent.
A left hand lands to the body for Fiso.
Fiso lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Volkov has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Fiso clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Fiso looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Volkov is hanging on to Fiso's back as he tries to escape.

Volkov is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Fiso has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Volkov has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Fiso taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Volkov doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ivan Volkov!
