PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arveids Skabene (ranked 24542 p4p, 504 weight class) and Blake Demust (ranked 24325 p4p, 519 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Demust's choice of entrance music: Slow Hands. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Arveids Skabene!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Blake Demust!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skabene slips a jab and a cross from Demust.

Demust throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Skabene was covering up waiting for the punch and Demust finishes the takedown easily into guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Skabene shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Demust sprawls well. Demust wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Skabene gets slowly back to his feet.

Demust closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

No joy there for Skabene, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Skabene shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Demust but Demust pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Demust misses with a few strikes there.
Skabene is looking for a counter combo.
Demust moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Skabene throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Demust.

Demust has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Skabene uses from the top position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Demust doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Skabene will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Demust wants to improve his position but instead Skabene has moved into half guard.
Still in half guard, Skabene seems content to control.

Demust has one foot on Skabene's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Skabene darts in and clinches Demust up against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Demust's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Demust feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Skabene pushes Demust off and scrambles back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Skabene thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Demust if he has to take too many more of those.

Demust wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Skabene.
Demust really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Skabene. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
