Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kendall Smith (ranked 6219 p4p, 0 weight class) and Coko Kowla (ranked 4636 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Kendall Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Coko Kowla!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Sam Margolis and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kowla fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the cage.

Kowla successfully pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kowla utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Smith won't allow Kowla to get back to his feet.
Smith working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Smith with a flurry of punches that miss.

Kowla has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Smith content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Kowla wants to stand and escape but Smith is having none of it.

Smith is looking to work some ground and pound but Kowla has wrist control.

Smith thows a huge punch but Kowla dodges it nicely.
Smith passes into side control, despite Kowla's attempt to control the position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Kowla is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kowla avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Smith.

Smith lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kowla down.

BOOM! Smith connects with a massive shot to the dome!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith lands a couple of good shots and Kowla has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Smith is working the ground and pound. Can Kowla escape?
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kowla is really stuck here.
Smith lands a shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Smith tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Kowla escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Kowla closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Smith quickly recovers to half guard.
Smith wants to control but Kowla is keeping busy.
Smith is staying active underneath Kowla, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Smith is on the bottom, trying to hold on to half guard. He's throwing a few small shots here, to keep his opponent honest.

Kowla must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kowla gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Smith gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kowla to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kowla stands and throws Smith's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Smith pushes Kowla away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kowla gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kowla can do to turn this around?

Kowla decides to stand back up.
Smith takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Smith is looking to counter the offense by Kowla and move into the clinch.
Kowla misses with a leg kick.
Kowla fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kowla is breathing heavily.
Smith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Kowla drives through and clinches with Smith against the cage.
Smith jumps guard but Kowla stands there with Smith around his waist. Smith gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Kowla breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kowla darts in looking for a takedown but Smith gets double underhooks and turns Kowla into the cage.
Kowla cracks the inside of Smith's front leg.
Kowla shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smith pinned against the cage. Smith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kendall Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Coko Kowla.

Kowla throws a left and a right that both miss

and Smith decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kowla's guard.
Smith is standing up over Kowla. Kowla looks to escape but Smith dives into side control.

Smith lands a decent elbow from side control.
Smith scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Kowla to see if he's OK.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kowla takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Smith landing strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Coko Kowla will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Smith's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Kowla moves into the clinch.
Smith tries to break free but Kowla pushes him back against the cage.
Smith has had enough of the clinch but Kowla keeps him there for the moment.
Smith is working for takedown but Kowla is calmly controlling the position for now.
Smith changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kowla fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Coko Kowla seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kowla darts in and clinches Smith up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kowla is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Smith is defending well for now.
Smith is trying to break the clinch but Kowla has him pressed against the cage.
Smith is trying to drag Kowla to the mat but Kowla just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Kowla misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Smith.

Kowla has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Smith uses from the top position.
Kowla really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kowla has Smith pulled in close to control his posture.

Kowla is trying to stand back up but Smith is controlling him
Smith seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Kowla takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kowla stops Smith from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Kowla wants to hold on but Smith pushes him away.
Kowla is desperately trying to improve his position but Smith has a good base and remains in mount.
Smith looking to control and managing it successfully.
Smith lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Smith landing punches.
Smith could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kowla takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Kendall Smith showed his dominance in that final round.
