Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jako Day (ranked 1990 p4p, 259 weight class) and Joey Diaz (ranked 1344 p4p, 187 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jako Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joey Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Kavanagh and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Day goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Day throws a jab but it's blocked by Diaz.
Diaz is looking to chop away at Day's legs.
Diaz keeps Day at a distance using the push kick.
Day chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Diaz can pounce on him.
A bone on bone clash there as Day blocks the leg kick.
Diaz scoring well with a low kick there.
Day misses with a body shot.
Diaz dips to his left and cracks Day with an uppercut!
Diaz throws a jab when Day was well out of range.
Day misses with a series of wild punches.
Day backing away here, and Diaz unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Day pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Day looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Joey Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Day moves out of range of the body kick.
Day shoots in for a double leg but Diaz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Day walks into a straight right hand from Diaz.
Day swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Diaz counters with a stiff right hand.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

We've been informed that Diaz has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Diaz has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

and Diaz makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

A close round but Joey Diaz will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


A combination from Day does no damage.
Day lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Day tries to close the distance and clinch up but Diaz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Diaz throws a leg kick but Day sees it coming and moves out of range.
Diaz fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Day.
Diaz scores with a three punch combo!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Diaz, as that shot connected.
Diaz feints and then cracks Day's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Day down.
Day staying out of range there.
A counter left hand to the body from Day misses its target.
Diaz fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Day.
A head kick misses from Diaz.
Joey Diaz seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Diaz takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Good leg kick by Diaz there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Day throws a front kick aimed at Diaz's knee but Diaz avoids it well.
Day looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Joey Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

As Diaz looks to move away, Day throws a big counter combo but Diaz just gets out of the way.

Day dives in for a single leg takedown but Diaz sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Day closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Oh Day is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Diaz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Day tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Day seems to have got his legs back now.
Diaz fakes the leg kick and cracks Day in the body.
Day tries to clinch there but Diaz circles away.
Diaz looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Day with a lazy takedown attempt
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jako Day. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Day misses the jab.
Diaz connects with a body shot that sends Day's belly button to the back.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Diaz! Day is out on his feet! Diaz rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Day is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Day is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
