PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Don Petersen (ranked 1124 p4p, 157 weight class) and Gennady Mikhasevich (ranked 1259 p4p, 174 weight class). Petersen's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, James Brown- Living in America. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gennady Mikhasevich was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Don Petersen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gennady Mikhasevich!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Paul Tew and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mikhasevich throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Petersen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Petersen blocks the body kick.
Mikhasevich slips a jab from Petersen.
Petersen missing with a left hand there. Mikhasevich was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Mikhasevich lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Mikhasevich is looking to slow Petersen down with leg kicks.
Petersen turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Petersen seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Mikhasevich lands a big head kick that sends Petersen tumbling to the mat! Mikhasevich takes a step backwards and waves Petersen back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Petersen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mikhasevich looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Petersen is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mikhasevich knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Mikhasevich tries a head kick but it misses.
Petersen on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Petersen closes the distance and clinches up with Mikhasevich, looking for a takedown. Petersen pushes Mikhasevich against the cage but Mikhasevich circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Petersen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Petersen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
