PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anton Shibaev (ranked 791 p4p, 120 weight class) and Jon Paul Carp (ranked 1255 p4p, 177 weight class). Anton Shibaev is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anton Shibaev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jon Paul Carp!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shibaev lands with a right hand.

Carp tries to counter with a clinch but Shibaev shakes him off and moves away.

and Shibaev counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Shibaev is working Carp over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Carp holds on and takes a little breather.

Shibaev stands up over Carp, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A looping hook to the body misses from Shibaev. Carp does a little dance to reset his feet.
A clash of legs there as Shibaev blocks the low kick.

and Shibaev counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Carp had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Shibaev defends it easily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Shibaev throws a lazy right hand but Carp sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Shibaev sets himself, and Carp steps forward looking for the clinch! Shibaev avoids it this time.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Shibaev is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Shibaev blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Our sources have told us that Shibaev has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
Carp doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Shibaev ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Shibaev no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shibaev has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Carp. Oh but Shibaev has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Carp goes limp - he's gone! Shibaev jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
