PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Deair Shaw (ranked 24800 p4p, 308 weight class) and Strike Man (ranked 5184 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Deair Shaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Strike Man!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaw lands a jab-cross combination.

Man closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Shaw to the mat! Shaw manages to get full guard.
Man won't allow Shaw to get back to his feet.
Man lands a couple of elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Man scoring with some ground and pound.

Shaw manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Man gets a double leg takedown into Shaw's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Man controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Shaw can't keep his opponent in guard - Man advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Shaw is trying to stand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Man looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Shaw pushes Man off looking to stand but Man dives back in and keeps control.
Man passes to side control.
Man works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
The referee asks Man politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Man prefers to stall for the moment though.
Shaw is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Man off and has taken his back!
Shaw is not going to allow Man to sit and survive in this position.
Man's corner are yelling at him, telling him to just focus on controlling Shaw's hands.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Man trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Man is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Man rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Man keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Man wants to improve his position but Shaw is controlling well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Shaw throwing shots but Man is blocking nicely.
Man holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Man can do anything to dispel that myth.
Man is looking for a sweep. Shaw is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Shaw seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Shaw is breathing heavily.
Shaw throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Man is trying to get back to full guard.
Shaw lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Shaw stops Man from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Man works his way to full guard. Good work.
Shaw has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Man looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Shaw wants to stand but Man has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Shaw fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Man manages to avoid it.

Man gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Man is on top in guard.

Man is stalling in the full guard.
Man's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Deair Shaw will probably get the nod.
That's time! Shaw's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Man drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Shaw wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Man manages to pass to side control.

Shaw wants to improve his position but Man is controlling well.
Man is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Man is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Shaw is just riding it out for now. Man eventually gives up the hold.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Man content to control rather than advance.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Man connects with a nice short shot to Shaw's temple.
Man passes to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee asks Man politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Man prefers to stall for the moment though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Shaw taking a bit of punishment here - Man scoring with strikes.
Man landing strikes.
Man controlling the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Man tries for a kimura but Shaw is defending well.
Shaw is working to avoid the ground and pound but Man connects with a decent elbow.

Man controls the position.
Man works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Man stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Shaw falls off balance throwing a combination
and Man counters with a nice body shot.

Man closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Shaw did well to prevent Man getting side control.

Man is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Man looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Man has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Man is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Man lands a nice short elbow.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Strike Man showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Shaw's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Man shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Shaw is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Man keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Shaw looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Man has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Man stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Man closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Man lands in his opponent's guard.
Shaw is wriggling around but Man manages to pass to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Shaw has hold of Man's hands but Man slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Man scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Man drops an elbow to the side of Shaw's head.
Man frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Man looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Man has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Man lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Man takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shaw wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Man looking to control and managing it successfully.
Man with shots to the head and body - Shaw looks very uncomfortable down there.
Man lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Man controlling from the full mount.
Shaw taking shots to the head.

Man connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Man lands a big shot there that rocks Shaw but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Man working for a guillotine from mount but Shaw is in no mood to give up.

Man is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Shaw can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Shaw takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Strike Man comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Man has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
