The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dodson misses with a takedown attempt - Ham sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Dodson gets a double leg takedown into Ham's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dodson wants to stand but Ham has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ham can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ham is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ham is on top in guard.

Dodson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ham defends it easily.
Ham pushes down on Dodson's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Ham drops an elbow to the side of Dodson's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ham connects with a nice short shot to Dodson's temple.
Ham is controlling the pace.
Dodson gets back to full guard.
Dodson is trying to keep Ham in close.
Dodson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Dodson has momentary wrist control but Ham slips an elbow through the middle.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ham's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Ham really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dodson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Let's hope that Ham has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Dodson is looking for a triangle but Ham pushes his legs off easily.
Ham sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dodson's guard.

Ham working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Ham lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Dodson! More strikes land and this one is all over! Ham jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
