Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Felipe Gregory (ranked 5077 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benjamin McSpadden (ranked 3016 p4p, 0 weight class). Benjamin McSpadden will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Felipe Gregory!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Benjamin McSpadden!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McSpadden drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gregory throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Gregory working for submissions but it's allowed McSpadden to get to half guard.
McSpadden is looking to take a break and control but Gregory is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gregory keeping control of the position.

McSpadden looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
McSpadden seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gregory does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gregory punching from the bottom.
Gregory desperately trying to maintain half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Gregory wants to control but McSpadden is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Gregory drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

McSpadden explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Gregory closes the distance and lands a one-two.

McSpadden drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Gregory kicks McSpadden off and gets to his feet.

Gregory avoids the head kick by McSpadden.
Gregory throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
McSpadden looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Gregory could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gregory connects with a couple of short punches.

Gregory lands a couple of elbows.
Gregory loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gregory is in close to McSpadden's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Gregory makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
McSpadden throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
McSpadden working a defensive guard but Gregory passes into half guard.
McSpadden wants to sweep but Gregory has passed to side control!

Gregory stands up and beckons McSpadden to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gregory tries to clinch up but McSpadden circles away and keeps his distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Felipe Gregory will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



McSpadden scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McSpadden wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Gregory uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Gregory wants to get back to his feet but McSpadden is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
McSpadden trying to control the position from guard on top but Gregory is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gregory will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

McSpadden looking to pass the guard.
Gregory might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

McSpadden is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Gregory is trying to control the position but McSpadden postures up.
McSpadden must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gregory bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McSpadden's guard.

Gregory is looking to work some ground and pound but McSpadden has wrist control.
Gregory with a flurry of punches that miss.

Gregory postures up in McSpadden's guard and throws a big left but McSpadden blocks it.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gregory accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

McSpadden shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gregory napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Gregory bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McSpadden shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gregory is trying to defend but McSpadden finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
McSpadden is breathing heavily.
Gregory throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and McSpadden manages to pass to side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gregory is trying to control McSpadden's posture but McSpadden avoids it.
McSpadden tries to advance to mount but Gregory instead regains half guard.
McSpadden looks to land a strike but Gregory avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Gregory has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

McSpadden got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gregory has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McSpadden has managed to get both his arms back between Gregory's legs - danger averted.

Gregory has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McSpadden can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Felipe Gregory dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


McSpadden tries a head kick but it misses.

McSpadden takes the fight into the clinch.

Gregory breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

McSpadden closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gregory to the mat! Gregory manages to get full guard.

Gregory is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
McSpadden wants to pass the guard but Gregory is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gregory is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McSpadden trying to move into half guard but instead Gregory has managed to sweep!

McSpadden is pulling down on Gregory's head to control his posture.
Gregory cracks McSpadden with a solid left hand.

Gregory gets to his feet. McSpadden looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

McSpadden closes the distance and pushes Gregory back into the cage.
Gregory is trying to pull guard but McSpadden has him pressed against the cage.

McSpadden gets control of Gregory's arms and successfully pulls guard. McSpadden will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Gregory postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McSpadden is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gregory, into his guard.

McSpadden wants to stand but Gregory is controlling his posture from full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gregory being controlled here, momentarily.
McSpadden working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gregory's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McSpadden wants to pass the guard but Gregory is keeping the position.
McSpadden is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Gregory is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McSpadden is aware though and is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gregory looking for a sweep. Not yet Gregory, not yet.
McSpadden would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
McSpadden wants to control from the top but Gregory keeps moving.
McSpadden wants to stand but Gregory is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Gregory has McSpadden up against the cage in a clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Benjamin McSpadden comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gregory has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
