PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Buford Barnes (ranked 23995 p4p, 0 weight class) and William Hyman (ranked 4580 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Buford Barnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, William Hyman!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Fedor Mirinova and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hyman just misses with a punch to the body.
Jab, jab by Hyman - just one landing.
Hyman connects with the punch.
Hyman throws a nice looking combination but Barnes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hyman connects with a jab.

Hyman closes the distance and pushes Barnes back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hyman is trying to stall.

Hyman fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hyman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Barnes throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Barnes is trying to pull guard but Hyman turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Barnes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Barnes uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hyman.
Hyman misses with a leg kick

and Barnes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hyman won't be happy with that.
Barnes misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Barnes creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Barnes in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Barnes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Barnes is trying to ground and pound but Hyman uses the momentary lack of control by Barnes to regain half guard.
Barnes takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Hyman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Barnes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hyman looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Barnes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hyman.

and Hyman counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Hyman shoots in and drives through. Barnes sprawls well.
Barnes has a takedown stuffed.
Hyman lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but William Hyman will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

William Hyman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Barnes fires out a quick counter leg kick but Hyman just manages to avoid it.

Barnes misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Barnes takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Barnes takes the fight into the clinch.

Barnes is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hyman gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Barnes tries to pull guard but Hyman holds him up against the cage and eventually Barnes drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Buford Barnes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Barnes keeps control of Hyman as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Barnes is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Barnes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Barnes pushes Hyman off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Hyman works the jab nicely.

Hyman closes the distance and clinches.
Barnes is pushing Hyman up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Barnes jumps guard but Hyman turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Buford Barnes will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Barnes goes for a takedown attempt but Hyman pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Hyman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Barnes is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hyman is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Barnes is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Hyman is trying to escape and Barnes transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Hyman is forced to tap! Nice work there by Barnes! Very nice indeed!
