PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Felipe Gregory (ranked 4630 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Indigo (ranked 4627 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Felipe Gregory!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eddie Indigo!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Francis DeMontford and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gregory clinches up against the cage.

Indigo turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Indigo manages to end up in side control.

Gregory throws Indigo to one side and escapes!
Gregory is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Gregory shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Indigo but Indigo pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Indigo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gregory's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gregory has a closed guard, preventing Indigo from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Indigo trying to control but Gregory is working from the bottom.
Indigo is looking to stand up but Gregory won't let him.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gregory looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Indigo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Indigo working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Gregory controls Indigo momentarily but Indigo frees himself.
Indigo with a nice head shot there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gregory doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Gregory has his foot on Indigo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Indigo works his way back into a safe position though.
Indigo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Gregory throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Indigo was covering up waiting for the punch and Gregory finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Gregory postures up.
Indigo is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Gregory won't allow Indigo to sweep him here.

Indigo throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Gregory prevents Indigo from getting back to his feet.
Gregory throwing strikes but missing.

Indigo is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Indigo prevents a takedown attempt there.

Indigo decides to pull guard.
Indigo wants to sweep but no luck.
Gregory throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Indigo is trying to keep Gregory in close.
Gregory is fighting to break Indigo's control of his arms but Indigo is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Indigo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gregory manages to get himself to full guard.

Indigo looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Indigo tries to stand but Gregory is controlling from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddie Indigo dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Indigo closes the distance and clinches.
Gregory manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Gregory gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Gregory working Indigo over with strikes.
Gregory misses with a head shot. Indigo uses the momentum to regain guard.

Indigo is looking for a triangle but Gregory pushes his legs off easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gregory throws a big elbow that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Indigo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gregory is one step ahead there.
Indigo is pulling down on Gregory's head. It's preventing any offense from Gregory, at least for the moment.
Gregory throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Indigo working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Gregory has passed into half guard!
Indigo trying to hold on to Gregory's head to control him but Gregory postures up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gregory is trying to control the action in half guard but Indigo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Gregory seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Indigo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Indigo.
Gregory prevents Indigo from getting back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Indigo looking to control but Gregory passes into half guard.
Indigo trying to hold on to Gregory's head to control him but Gregory postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Gregory forces Indigo back against the cage and clinches.

Indigo breaks the clinch.
Felipe Gregory is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gregory closes the distance and clinches up with Indigo, looking for a takedown. Gregory pushes Indigo against the cage but Indigo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Indigo throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Gregory counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Gregory drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Indigo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gregory has Indigo in his guard.

Eddie Indigo has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gregory is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Indigo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Felipe Gregory will probably get the nod.
That's time! Gregory's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Indigo not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Gregory pushes Indigo off but Indigo dives into side control.
Indigo taking a break here but Gregory is having none of it and regains half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Indigo is going to stand back up.

Indigo is working for a submission of some sort.
Indigo controlling the action here.

Gregory scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Indigo manages to mount him!

Gregory is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Gregory sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Indigo missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Indigo takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Gregory is staying active underneath Indigo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Indigo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Gregory has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Indigo seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Indigo thows a huge punch but Gregory dodges it nicely.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Indigo swats away the attempt to clinch by Gregory.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Indigo gets a takedown into half guard.

Gregory has one foot on Indigo's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Felipe Gregory showed his dominance in that final round.
I have no idea who won that fight. Let's wait and see whether the judges are as confused as me! Time for a split decision perhaps?!. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
