The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nilsen connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Ryan's hands.
Nilsen takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Nilsen throws a poor cross that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Ryan has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Nilsen has closed the distance and engaged Ryan in a clinch.
Still in the clinch, Ryan scores with a nice short uppercut.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Ryan.

Ryan manages to break the clinch.

I was talking to Nilsen's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Nilsen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Nilsen ducks under a wild hook from Ryan.
Nilsen throws an off balance right hand
and Ryan counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Ryan throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Nilsen stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Ryan misses with a hook.
Ryan uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nilsen.
Nilsen backing away here, and Ryan unleashes a leg kick that just misses.

and Ryan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A left lands for Ryan.

Ryan explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Nilsen looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Nilsen fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nilsen's jab looks to have found its range, popping Ryan under the eye.
Nilsen lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Ryan connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Nilsen looks to land a right hand but Ryan moved out of range.

Nilsen misses the body punch
and Ryan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Ryan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Ryan counters with a nice right hand that sends Nilsen toppling to the canvas! Nilsen scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Ryan finish him?!

Nilsen is rocked!

Ryan steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Nilsen.
Oh Nilsen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ryan displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nilsen throws out the jab.
Nilsen seems to have got his legs back now.
Nice defenses there by Ryan.
Nilsen misses with an uppercut.
Ryan unleashes a big counter combination but Nilsen bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Nilsen misses with a looping right.
Nilsen digs a good hook to Ryan's body.
Ryan slips under a jab.
Ryan fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Yacob Nilsen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ryan throws a jab but it's blocked by Nilsen.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nilsen misses the jab.
Ryan throws out a counter right but Nilsen avoids it with no problem.
Ryan ducks under a wild hook from Nilsen.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Ryan.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Ryan dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Nilsen throws a predictable looking body shot
and Ryan counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Ryan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ryan feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Nilsen sprawling to the canvas! Nilsen rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Ryan finish him?!
Nilsen throws a lazy uppercut
and Ryan scores with a counter punch that sends Nilsen to the canvas! Ryan smells blood - he's punishing Nilsen with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Nilsen has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

In his post fight interview, Jimmy Ryan started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
