PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo De Lima (ranked 2832 p4p, 167 weight class) and Paolo Duterte (ranked 4426 p4p, 233 weight class). De Lima comes into the arena with Linkin Park - Numb blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duterte is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
De Lima fails to land the takedown.

Duterte looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Paolo Duterte seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
De Lima misses with a series of wild punches.
Duterte scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duterte throws a low kick but it's checked well by De Lima.

and De Lima counters with a straight right hand.
Duterte walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

De Lima tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Duterte paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Duterte tries to land a front kick but De Lima steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

and De Lima counters with a left and a right that stings Duterte.
De Lima dives in and grabs Duterte's left leg, looking for a takedown. Duterte pushes down on De Lima's head and hops out.
Duterte is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
De Lima catches Duterte with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

De Lima looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

De Lima is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Duterte gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Duterte gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

De Lima drops back looking for a leg! Duterte is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Duterte manages to kick De Lima off! De Lima jumps back into Duterte's guard.

De Lima thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Horrible takedown attempt by De Lima or perhaps it was just good defense by Duterte, which made it look bad.

Duterte is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Duterte slips a jab and a cross from De Lima.
Duterte looks to land a combination but De Lima avoids it well.
Duterte is breathing heavily.
Duterte on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A combination from De Lima does no damage.

De Lima throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Duterte was covering up waiting for the punch and De Lima finishes the takedown easily into guard.

De Lima is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

De Lima works a leg free and moves into half guard.

De Lima has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Duterte defend it? De Lima steps over the head and cranks it - Duterte is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for De Lima!
