PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Probst (ranked 4747 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Pistone (ranked 4740 p4p, 0 weight class). Probst's entrance music is o__o. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeff Probst!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Pistone!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Anthony Taglia and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pistone is looking to land body kicks.
Probst really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Pistone fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Probst gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Pistone counters with a body kick that stops Probst in his tracks momentarily.
Pistone throws a nice inside leg kick.
Probst throws a body shot but no joy.
Pistone throws the kick towards the body but Probst avoids it.

Probst closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pistone quickly recovers to half guard.
Probst will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Probst thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pistone's head.
Probst tries to pass to full mount but Pistone defends it.

Probst postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Pistone to stand up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Probst. Pistone does a little dance to reset his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Probst rushes Pistone and presses him up against the cage.
Pistone holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Probst is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Pistone to keep the fight standing.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Pistone misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Probst.

Probst breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Probst moves out of range of the body kick.
Probst misses with a series of wild punches.
Probst bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Pistone's head backwards.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Probst slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Pistone lands a leg kick that knocks Probst off balance momentarily.
A low kick from Pistone misses

so Probst counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Probst is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Pistone is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Probst on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Probst tries to get out of the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The fighters are battling for position here. Probst manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Pistone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Probst swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Probst working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Pistone has passed into half guard!

Pistone seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Probst does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Pistone is looking for a kimura here.

Probst is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pistone pulls his head out easily.
Probst is holding on to half guard well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Probst won't allow Pistone to pass to mount.
Probst has his hands clasped together around Pistone's back. He's all about the action.
Probst is trying to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Probst dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pistone tries a head kick but it misses.
Pistone throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pistone walks into a jab.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Probst is looking for a takedown.
Probst stalling in the clinch.
Pistone swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Probst tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pistone is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Pistone misses with a hook to the ribs.
Pistone wants to stall.

Pistone can't break the clinch.
Pistone looking to stall.
Probst blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Pistone is looking to control Probst's arms but Probst gets an underhook and turns him. Now Pistone has his back to the cage.
Probst is trying to pull guard but Pistone turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeff Probst. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pistone is struggling to control the position.
Pistone struggles to land a body shot inside as Probst controls his hands.
Probst leaning his opponent against the cage.
Pistone trying to stall but Probst improves his position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Joe Pistone.
A head kick by Pistone misses
and Probst counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Probst instigates a clinch.

Probst manages to break the clinch.

Pistone gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Probst to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Probst has gone for a leg lock! Pistone slips out almost immediately though and dives into Probst's guard.

Pistone trying to control but Probst is working from the bottom.

Probst looking for a sweep. Not yet Probst, not yet.
Pistone looking to pass the guard.
Probst trying to strike off his back.
Probst managing to control the position.
Pistone preventing the sweep.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Probst is looking for a triangle but Pistone pushes his legs off easily.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pistone wants to free his trapped foot but Probst is holding on for dear life with his legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jeff Probst will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Probst is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Pistone throws a big counter head kick but Probst avoids it with no problem.
Pistone lets loose with a powerful body kick. Probst will feel that in the morning.
Probst takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Pistone motions for Probst to come forward. Pistone throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Probst gets a double leg takedown into Pistone's guard.
Jeff Probst overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pistone is trying to control the position but Probst postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Probst with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Probst is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Probst shoots in but no luck this time.

Probst takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Pistone lands a front kick.
Joe Pistone has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Pistone throws a push kick but Probst slaps the foot to one side.

Probst pushes Pistone up against the cage in a clinch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Probst just leaning against Pistone, taking a breather.

Probst breaks the clinch.
Probst throws a head kick but Pistone moves out of range.
Pistone lets loose with a powerful body kick. Probst will feel that in the morning.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A head kick misses from Pistone.
Pistone throws a lazy head kick
and Probst connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Probst will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.

Probst decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Probst is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Probst is looking to advance position but Pistone won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Probst trying to control the pace.
Probst missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Probst controlling the action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Probst stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Pistone to get to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jeff Probst showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Probst, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
