PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Fujii Yusuke (ranked 501 p4p, 68 weight class) and Mamoru Date (ranked 472 p4p, 63 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fujii Yusuke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 10 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Mamoru Date!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Colin Fotheringham and James Ackerman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Date scores with a shot to the body.
Date lands a jab to the head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Date. Yusuke does a little dance to reset his feet.
Yusuke missing with a left hand there. Date was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Yusuke falls off balance throwing a combination
and Date counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Yusuke tests Date's chin there with a solid looking shot.
A chopping leg kick lands by Yusuke.
Date with a jab.
Date ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Yusuke moves away.
Yusuke checks a leg kick.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Yusuke.
Yusuke throws a right hand that Date ducks under and follows up with a left that Date also avoids with ease.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Yusuke on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Date. Date obviously looking to wear him down.
Yusuke finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Yusuke lands a jab to the head.
Date scoring well with a low kick there.
Date misses with a straight right.
Yusuke misses with a low kick.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Date! But no joy.
Date misses the shot to the body.

Yusuke tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Date swivels and escapes.
Yusuke moves in looking to clinch but Date pushes him off.
Yusuke connects with a jab.
Date loads up on a big right hand but Yusuke slips the punch.
Yusuke slips a jab from Date.
Yusuke throws a jab when Date was well out of range.
Yusuke throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Yusuke thuds a left hand into Date's body.
Date throws a hook to the side of Yusuke's head but Yusuke sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Fujii Yusuke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Yusuke gets the takedown into side control.
Date tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Yusuke wants to lay and pray for a moment but Date keeps working.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Date is trying to work for a sweep but Yusuke has mounted him!

Yusuke thowing shots but they're missing.
Date tries to hold on but Yusuke postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Date is wriggling around trying to escape.
Date avoids a series of strikes thrown by Yusuke.
Yusuke avoids the attempt from Date to control.

Date manages to regain half guard whilst avoiding the strikes.
The fighters are battling for position here. Date manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Date is pulling down on Yusuke's head to control his posture.
Yusuke in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Date lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Date has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Yusuke is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Yusuke has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Date doesn't defend quickly enough and Yusuke has managed to lock this one up! Can Date escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Yusuke on a fantastic submission victory.
