Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Royce Hatfield (ranked 24375 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Hunt (ranked 4745 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Royce Hatfield!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Hunt!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hunt moves into range and clinches up with Hatfield.
Hatfield tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hunt smiles and moves away.

Hatfield clinches.

Hunt breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hunt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hatfield throws a big counter combination but Hunt scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Mike Hunt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hunt explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Hunt lands with a right hand.

Hunt moves into range and clinches up with Hatfield.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hunt decides to pull guard.

Hatfield gets to his feet - Hunt follows without any prompting.

Hunt darts in and clinches Hatfield up against the cage.
Hatfield effectively controlling the action here.

Hatfield misses with the head strike.
Hatfield has Hunt pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hunt manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Hunt lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Hunt on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Hunt tries to pull guard but Hatfield won't allow it.

Hatfield clinches up with Hunt and pushes him back against the cage.
Hatfield is pushing Hunt up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Hunt shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hunt trying to control the position from guard on top but Hatfield is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hunt wants to stand but Hatfield has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Hatfield might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Hunt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hatfield swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hunt would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hatfield tries to clinch up.
Hunt throws a right and a left that Hatfield avoids nicely.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hatfield shoots in and bounces Hunt off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Hunt working for a triangle but Hatfield defends it easily.
Hunt is adopting a defensive guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hatfield accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hunt closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hatfield circles away.
Hatfield throws a big counter combination but Hunt scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Hunt bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hatfield takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Hatfield can't do much from the bottom here.
Hatfield tries to buck Hunt off but Hunt is having none of it.

Hunt stands up and beckons Hatfield to his feet.
Hunt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hatfield avoids it really well and circles away.

Hunt keeps the fight on the outside.

Hatfield doesn't manage to clinch there - Hunt circles away.
Hatfield shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hunt but Hunt pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And Hunt tries to counter it with a takedown but Hatfield pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Horrible takedown attempt by Hatfield or perhaps it was just good defense by Hunt, which made it look bad.

Hatfield fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hunt, pushing him back against the cage.
Hatfield has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hunt avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hunt throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Hatfield won't allow Hunt to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hatfield drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hatfield jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hatfield decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hunt, up you get!

Hunt has picked Hatfield up - he's going for a ride! Hunt dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Hunt is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hatfield has managed to free his arm - good work.

Mike Hunt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Hatfield has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hunt is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Hunt is trying to pull guard but Hatfield turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Hatfield unloads a knee to the mid-section. Hunt lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Hatfield stands up over Hunt, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Hatfield has gone for a leg lock! Hunt slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hatfield's guard.

Hunt trying to control the position from guard on top but Hatfield is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hunt postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Hunt tries to free his leg and advance position but Hatfield is retaining full guard.

Hunt gets to his feet. Hatfield looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

A nice glancing elbow lands by Hunt.


It looks like Royce Hatfield has been cut.
Hunt is trying to drag Hatfield to the mat but Hatfield just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Hunt pulls guard successfully.

Hatfield trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Hatfield drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hunt manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hatfield has Hunt in his guard.


Hatfield is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hunt is aware though and is defending well.

Hatfield is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hatfield keeping moving, preventing Hunt from controlling successfully.
Mike Hunt has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hunt distracts Hatfield with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Hunt pushing down on Hatfield's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hunt is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hatfield defends it well.
