Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Royce Franks (ranked 6347 p4p, 0 weight class) and Synister Thrasher (ranked 3140 p4p, 285 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Franks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Synister Thrasher!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Franks fails with a takedown attempt.
Thrasher swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Thrasher thows a body kick. Franks tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Thrasher instigates a clinch.

Thrasher's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Franks gets caught napping as Thrasher dives in and scores a takedown. Franks manages to retain guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Franks is trying to control the position but Thrasher postures up.
Franks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Thrasher feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Franks postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Franks not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Franks gets to his feet - Thrasher follows without any prompting.
Thrasher stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Thrasher wants it to stay on the feet.
Thrasher changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Franks tries to close the distance and clinch up but Thrasher swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Thrasher is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Franks keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Franks manages to get to full guard.

Thrasher gets to his feet. Franks looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Thrasher closes the distance and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Franks is trying to force a seperation but Thrasher has the dominant position.
Franks throws an elbow but it misses.
Thrasher takes a knee to the side of the body.
Thrasher controlling the action here for a moment.
Thrasher misses with a knee to the head.
Franks could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Franks wants to break free but Thrasher has control.

Franks breaks the clinch.

Thrasher closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Franks quickly recovers to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Synister Thrasher dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Franks lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Thrasher at a distance.
Royce Franks is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Thrasher dives in and scores a takedown into Franks's guard.
Franks trying to keep a closed guard but Thrasher is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Thrasher advances to half guard.
Franks trying to hold on to Thrasher's head to control him but Thrasher postures up.
Franks is refusing to be controlled, as Thrasher sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Franks wants to control but Thrasher is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Thrasher has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Franks is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Thrasher is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Thrasher looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Franks!
You can see the frustration on Franks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Franks is looking for a sweep.
Thrasher is looking to take a break and control but Franks is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Thrasher is breathing heavily.
Thrasher throws a strike aimed at the side of Franks's head but Franks avoids it well.
Thrasher trying to control the position but Franks is working away.
Franks sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Synister Thrasher has got the better of the ground game so far.
Thrasher misses with a head shot. Franks uses the momentum to regain guard.
Franks is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Franks pulls Thrasher in close to prevent any damage.
Thrasher must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Thrasher looking to sit in guard and control but Franks gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Thrasher is trying to keep Franks in close.
Thrasher is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Franks is stalling in the full guard.
Franks landing with the ground and pound.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thrasher can do anything to dispel that myth.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Franks gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Synister Thrasher showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Franks tries to keep at a distance but Thrasher has taken the fight into the clinch.
Franks wants to break the clinch but can't.
Franks is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Thrasher misses with a knee to the head.

Franks is fighting off a takedown attempt but Thrasher is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Franks to the mat. Franks regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Thrasher takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Franks is trying to keep Thrasher in close.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Franks is on top in guard.


Franks stands and steps away. Thrasher gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Synister Thrasher seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Franks breaks the clinch.

Thrasher closes the distance and clinches.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Thrasher. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Thrasher shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Franks's guard.

Thrasher drops back, looking for a kneebar! Franks looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Franks looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Franks!

Franks stands up and beckons Thrasher to his feet.
Franks scores with a nice right hand.
Franks shoots in but no luck this time.

Franks moves into range and clinches up with Thrasher.
Franks looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Franks manages to break the clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Thrasher enables Franks to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Thrasher manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Franks sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Thrasher's guard.

Franks stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Franks looking to score a takedown here. Thrasher is defending well but Franks drives through and ends up in Thrasher's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Royce Franks.
Well Thrasher has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
