Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luc Gagnon (ranked 5 p4p, 1 weight class) and Nick Graves (ranked 18 p4p, 5 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gagnon throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Graves counters with a stiff right hand.
Graves avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Graves moves into range and clinches up with Gagnon.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Gagnon.
I was talking to Gagnon's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Gagnon blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Gagnon misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Graves throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Gagnons head.
Gagnon breaks from the clinch.
Graves takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Graves throws a jab but it's blocked by Gagnon.
Graves has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Gagnon finds it's way round the side to connect with Graves's head.
Graves fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Gagnon looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Graves keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gagnon takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
It looks like Luc Gagnon has been cut.
Gagnon throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Graves counters with a stiff right hand.
Graves uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gagnon.
Graves throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Gagnon stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Gagnon dips to his left and cracks Graves with an uppercut!
Gagnon misses with an uppercut
and Graves connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Gagnon lands a head shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gagnon throws a low kick but it's checked well by Graves.
Graves scores with a hook to the body. Gagnon takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Graves throws a hook but Gagnon blocks it.
Gagnon throws a right hand that misses
and Graves counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Graves lands a body shot.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Gagnon, as that shot connected.
Graves scores with a shot to the body.

A jab from Gagnon misses.
Graves wants to clinch up but Gagnon keeps it at a distance.
Gagnon is looking to counter punch.
Graves throws a jab but it's blocked by Gagnon.
Gagnon pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Graves back to the cage. Gagnon follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Gagnon misses with a looping right.
Graves moves into the clinch.
Gagnon tries a body shot but Graves blocks it.
Graves prevents Gagnon from breaking the clinch.
Gagnon is trying to pull guard but Graves has him pressed against the cage.
Gagnon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Graves looks to land a right hand but Gagnon moved out of range.
Graves throws a lazy uppercut
and Graves takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Graves is rocked!
Graves gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Gagnon gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Graves is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Luc Gagnon!
Luc Gagnon retains his middleweight title!
Luc Gagnon was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
