PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aki Hiko (ranked 1080 p4p, 57 weight class) and Aleksey Borodin (ranked 924 p4p, 21 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aki Hiko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Aleksey Borodin!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hiko takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.


It looks like Aki Hiko has been cut.
Hiko scores with a nice right hand.
Hiko throws a sloppy head kick and Borodin moves out of range easily.
Hiko avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Hiko uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Borodin.
Hiko keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We've been informed that Borodin has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Borodin throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hiko sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Hiko swings for the body but Borodin moves out of range.

Borodin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Borodin is looking to clinch but Hiko is avoiding it.
Borodin is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Hiko.

and Borodin counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Borodin throws a hook to the side of Hiko's head but Hiko sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Borodin throws a right and a left that Hiko avoids nicely.
Borodin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hiko moves away.

and Hiko counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Hiko really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Borodin has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Borodin is on top in guard.

Hiko is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Hiko will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hiko with the ground and pound but Borodin uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Hiko has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Borodin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Borodin postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Hiko to stand up.
Hiko uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Borodin has time to react.
Borodin misses with a low kick as Hiko jumps back.
Hiko tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Aki Hiko will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Hiko shoots in and bounces Borodin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Borodin has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Hiko has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Borodin lands a right hand.
Hiko fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Hiko pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Borodin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hiko.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Borodin enables Hiko to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Borodin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Borodin has control of Hiko's left arm, preventing Hiko from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hiko is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Borodin wants to stand but Hiko is controlling the position.

Hiko is working Borodin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Borodin is rocked!
Hiko arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Borodin's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Aki Hiko!
