PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Galen Dall (ranked 89 p4p, 13 weight class) and Pekka Pera (ranked 306 p4p, 42 weight class). Dall comes into the arena with Red - Already Over blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Galen Dall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pekka Pera!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dall takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Dall throws a leg kick but Pera moved away.
A big right from Dall misses.
Dall finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Pera doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Dall scores with a hook.
Pera slips a jab and a cross from Dall.
Pera wants to counter with a clinch but Dall pushes him away.
Dall showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Pera.
Dall scores with a jab to the jaw.
Dall chopping away at his opponent's legs.
A slapping leg kick lands for Pera.
Dall misses with a body kick.
Dall takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Pera connects with a crisp jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dall throws a big shot that misses.
Dall misses with an uppercut. Pera saw that one coming.
Dall misses with a two punch combination.
A nice inside leg kick there by Dall. That's going to slow Pera down.
Galen Dall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pera misses with a low kick.

Pera gets a takedown into half guard.
Pera is controlling the pace.
Dall has hold of Pera's hands but Pera slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Pera not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Dall tries to get to full guard but Pera has control of the leg.

Dall looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dall is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Dall is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pera pulls his head out easily.

Pera wants to control but Dall is keeping him busy.

Pera throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Dall is looking for a sweep. Pera is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Pera is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Dall tries to get to full guard but Pera has control of the leg.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Pera drops an elbow to the side of Dall's head.
Pera is nestled in close to Dall, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Pera trying to control the action but Dall is working from the bottom.

Dall is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pera pulls his head out easily.
Pera lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dall won't allow Pera to pass to mount.
Dall wants to control but Pera is keeping busy.
Pera looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Pekka Pera will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Pera steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dall.
Dall changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Pera has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Nice body punch from Pera.
Pera stuffs the takedown attempt from Dall. Dall gets slowly back to his feet.
Pera misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Galen Dall is winning the standup battle so far.
Pera fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Pera tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dall defends well and Pera ends up having to push Dall into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Dall swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Pera takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dall feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Pera's calf.
Pera takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Dall swats away the attempt to clinch by Pera.
Dall attempts a counter takedown but Pera avoids it well and moves away.
Dall motions for Pera to come forward. Dall throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Pera looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Dall lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Pera backs up against the cage.
Pera throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Pera chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Dall feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Peras jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Dall checks a leg kick nicely.
It looks like Dall has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Pera looks to land a right hand but Dall moved out of range.
Pera throws a leg kick

and Dall counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Dall wants to control from the top but Pera keeps moving.
Pera has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Dall has passed into side control.
Pera manages to work his way to half guard, despite Dall's best efforts.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pera is defending against the submission attempts here by Dall.

Dall is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pera defends it well.
The fighters are battling for position here. Pera manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Dall sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pera's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dall is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Pera has managed to free his arm - good work.

Pera keeping hold of Dall's head, controlling as best he can.

Dall is looking for a kimura but Pera is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dall to get the leverage.

Pera is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Dall has latched onto it... Big trouble! Dall pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Pera is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Dall!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Galen Dall!
Galen Dall was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
Pekka Pera spoke after the fight, saying 'Matchmaking like this always makes me feel like i have done something bad to these owners..'.
