Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Elazar Shalit (ranked 617 p4p, 77 weight class) and Ivan Volkov (ranked 1573 p4p, 169 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Volkov!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shalit throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Volkov counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Ivan Volkov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A punch lands to the side of Shalit 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Shalit tries a head kick but it misses.
Volkov throws out a counter right but Shalit avoids it with no problem.
Volkov ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shalit moves away.
The fighters circle momentarily. Volkov darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Good leg kick by Shalit there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
A low kick from Shalit misses

and Volkov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Shalit is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Volkov defends well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shalit is trying to control the position but Volkov postures up.
Volkov content to stall in guard here.
Volkov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shalit wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Volkov is now in half guard.

Volkov is trying to work for a kimura but Shalit is defending well.
Shalit manages to get to full guard.

Shalit escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Volkov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Shalit looking for a guillotine here but Volkov defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Volkov pushes down on Shalit's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Volkov wants to free his trapped foot but Shalit is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Volkov is working for a submission of some sort.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Shalit is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Volkov pulls his head out easily.
Volkov works his way into side control.

Volkov is working to tighten his grip on Shalit's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Shalit has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Volkov is really squeezing tight and eventually Shalit passes out! Volkov breaks the hold and jumps onto the ropes to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
