PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Billy Brown (ranked 2590 p4p, 284 weight class) and Axel Solomon (ranked 2696 p4p, 292 weight class). Brown comes to the cage accompanied by CCR - Bad Moon Rising. Solomon has chosen Beatdown as his entrance music. Billy Brown could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Axel Solomon's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Billy Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Axel Solomon!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Chris Saunders and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown misses with a body shot
and Solomon counters with a series of strikes. Brown will be more careful next time no doubt.
Brown shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Solomon but Solomon pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Solomon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Brown moves away.
Billy Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Solomon shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Solomon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Brown.
Solomon tries a head kick but it misses.
Brown avoids a kick to the body.
Brown closes this distance looking for a takedown but Solomon circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brown lands a jab to the head.
Solomon lands a jab-cross combination.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Brown shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Solomon napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Brown working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Solomon felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Brown is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Solomon to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Solomon shrugs it off.
Solomon tries to hold on but Brown pushes him away.

Solomon is squirming around, avoiding Brown's attempts to control the action.

Brown is working for a guillotine from mount but Solomon frees his head quite easily.
Solomon keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Solomon is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Brown has taken his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A bit of a pause in the action here. Brown controlling the positon.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Solomon wants to control his opponent's hands but Brown gets his hands free.

Solomon is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Brown gets his way!

Brown is looking for the choke from the back position but Solomon is controlling his hands well.
Brown seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Solomon's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Brown is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Solomon with him. Solomon is trying to defend but Brown has an arm under the chin now! Solomon grimaces and is forced to tap out!
