Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Stipe Velasquez!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Menger shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Menger makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Menger working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Velasquez working for a triangle but Menger defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Menger with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Velasquez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Velasquez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Menger manages to get himself to full guard.

Menger seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Menger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Menger holds on and takes a little breather.
I've been told that Velasquez has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game.
