Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Diaz (ranked 3831 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franky Yip (ranked 2631 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 3, fighting out of Montreal, Franky Yip!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Yip keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Yip fails in his attempt to clinch.
Diaz doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Yip cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz dives in and grabs Yip's left leg, looking for a takedown. Yip pushes down on Diaz's head and hops out.

Diaz is pressed up against the cage. Yip has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Diaz down to the mat. Diaz avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Yip lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Diaz has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Diaz and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Diaz gets tackled into the cage by Yip. Yip maintains the clinch.
Yip drops down looking for an ankle pick but Diaz pulls his leg out and moves away.

Diaz ducks under a wild hook from Yip.
Diaz changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Yip tries to close the distance and clinch up but Diaz swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Yip misses with a body kick.
Yip throws a leg kick but Diaz checks it.

Diaz gets tackled into the cage by Yip. Yip maintains the clinch.

Yip has clasped his hands together around Diaz's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Diaz tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Yip is trying to get an arm triangle but Diaz is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Franky Yip dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Diaz cracks Yip with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Yip wants to pass to mount but Diaz is defending the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Yip throws a body punch but Diaz moves out of range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Yip enables Diaz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Yip manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Yip bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diaz's guard.

Diaz gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Yip seems to be looking for submissions.
Yip prevents Diaz from improving his position.
Franky Yip has got the better of the ground game so far.
Diaz wants to control but Yip is keeping busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Franky Yip showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Diaz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Franky Yip comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Yip has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Franky Yip started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
Mike Diaz was interviewed post fight and said 'Congratulations to my opponent for his win and a good grappling contest.'.
