PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between AC Slater (ranked 1727 p4p, 238 weight class) and Trent Punchy (ranked 1781 p4p, 243 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Slater might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Stop What Ya Doin. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, AC Slater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 39 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Trent Punchy!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slater lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Punchy misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Slater.
Punchy misses with a straight right.
Slater feinted with a counter takedown.

Punchy looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Punchy working the head and body with strikes.
Slater tries to get to full guard but Punchy has control of the leg.

Slater pushes Punchy off and gets back to his feet.
Slater moves away from the strike by Punchy.
Slater throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Punchy on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
A telegraphed right hand from Punchy misses the target.
Slater attempts a counter takedown but Punchy avoids it well and moves away.
Punchy lands a lovely overhand right.

Slater feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Slater postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Punchy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Slater is in close to Punchy's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Punchy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Slater can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Punchy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Slater doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Slater manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Slater has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Punchy is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Slater postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Punchy looks a forlorn figure.
Punchy keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Punchy is looking to improve his position but Slater isn't that keen on the idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

AC Slater dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Slater tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Punchy defends well and Slater ends up having to push Punchy into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Slater connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Slater swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Punchy counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Slater closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Punchy to the mat! Punchy manages to get full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Slater's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Punchy lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Slater wants to get back to his feet but Punchy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Punchy throws a strike but Slater rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Punchy had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Slater defends it easily.
Slater makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Punchy is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Slater is aware though and is defending well.

Slater looks up at the clock and then as Punchy takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Slater smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Trent Punchy gave a mention to FORCEE in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
