PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Elgin Turner (ranked 459 p4p, 67 weight class) and Street Fighter (ranked 312 p4p, 42 weight class). Turner comes to the cage accompanied by Wu-Tang Clan - Da Mystery Of Chessboxin'. Fighter has chosen You Know How I Do It as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Elgin Turner had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Elgin Turner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Street Fighter!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turner throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Fighter on the side of the head.
Fighter lands a body shot.

Turner instigates a clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Fighter.
Turner misses with a punch on the inside.
Fighter works on Turner's body with a couple of short punches.
Fighter's coach down at Team Alpha Midget was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Fighter's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Turner is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Fighter lands a left hand that snaps the head of Turner backwards.
Fighter tries to work over Turner's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Turner postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Fighter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Turner gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Street Fighter dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Fighter blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Turner tries to throw a body punch but Fighter avoids it by throwing Turner back against the cage.
Fighter tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Fighter goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A head punch on the inside from Turner fails to land.
Turner digs a right hand underneath Fighter's ribcage. Fighter let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Fighter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Turner misses with a short punch on the inside.
Turner swings wildly with an uppercut but Fighter uses good head movement to avoid it.
Turner lands with a left to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Turner tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Fighter is leaning against Turner and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Fighter can't find room to land a body shot as Turner controls the action.

Turner lands a hook that snaps the head of Fighter backwards.
Turner lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Fighter swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Fighter jumps guard but Turner stands there with Fighter around his waist. Fighter gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Turner creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Fighter tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

and Fighter counters with a single leg into guard. Turner didn't expect that.
Elgin Turner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Turner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Turner looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Turner throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fighter looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Turner swings for the body but Fighter moves out of range.
A countering left hand to the body from Fighter misses.
Fighter on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Fighter ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Turner throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Fighter was covering up waiting for the punch and Turner finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Well Turner has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Elgin Turner started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
