Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Levar Draco (ranked 2721 p4p, 296 weight class) and Trent Ruta (ranked 2859 p4p, 311 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Levar Draco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trent Ruta!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Paulo Santos and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruta shoots and misses
and Draco counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Draco misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ruta takes a swing at Draco's ribcage but misses.
Draco moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Ruta shoots for a double leg takedown but Draco sprawls well. He's pushed Ruta's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ruta lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Draco circles away quickly and effectively.
Trent Ruta seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jab, jab by Draco - just one landing.
Ruta throws a left and a right that both miss
letting Draco counter with a right hand.
Ruta tries to clinch but Draco is having none of it.
Draco is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Ruta drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ruta is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Draco is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Draco has escaped and now he's on top!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Draco accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ruta working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Draco doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Draco manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Draco got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ruta has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Draco has managed to get both his arms back between Ruta's legs - danger averted.
Ruta is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Draco is aware though and is defending well.

Ruta can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Draco controls the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ruta throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Ruta dives in for a single leg takedown but Draco sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.
Levar Draco has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Trent Ruta.
Draco leaves Ruta with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ruta tries to close the distance and clinch up but Draco swats him away and circles back towards the center.

It looks like Trent Ruta has been cut.
A bone on bone clash there as Ruta blocks the leg kick.

Draco displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ruta.

and Draco cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Ruta shoots in looking for a takedown. Draco tries to sprawl out of it but Ruta keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Draco manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ruta.
Draco scores with a one two! Ruta had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Draco throws a push kick but Ruta slaps the foot to one side.
Ruta lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Ruta.
Ruta tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Draco wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Ruta working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Draco is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Draco steps into range and cracks Ruta with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Ruta flops backwards and Draco dives into his guard looking to finish!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Draco not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Ruta has his foot on Draco's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Draco works his way back into a safe position though.

Draco is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ruta can do to turn this around?
Draco sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ruta's guard.
Ruta seems to have recovered his senses.
Draco passes the guard and advances to mount!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Draco uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Ruta has time to react.
Ruta tries for a takedown but Draco sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Draco throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Ruta tumbling to the canvas!

Well Draco has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
