PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Henry (ranked 856 p4p, 98 weight class) and Ezekyle Abaddon (ranked 1416 p4p, 145 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Abaddon's choice of entrance music: Vengeful One. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Henry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 38 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ezekyle Abaddon!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abaddon swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Henry misses with a looping left.
Abaddon connects with a jab.
Abaddon misses with a hook. Henry ducked under it nicely.
Abaddon punishes Henry's body with a nice straight punch.
Henry scores with a jab to the jaw.
A head kick misses from Abaddon.
Sloppy strikes from Henry. Those never looked like landing.

Henry closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Abaddon seems a little lost for a moment, as Henry dominates the positioning.
Abaddon parries the strikes from Henry easily there. Henry is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Abaddon to escape.
Abaddon is trying to get back to half guard.
Henry staying calm.
Henry looks up at the clock and then as Abaddon takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Henry smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Henry seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Abaddon for as long as he can get away with.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Abaddon can't do much from the bottom here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Henry has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Henry tries to advance to mount but can't.
Abaddon takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Abaddon is trying to escape the position but Henry is controlling the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Henry scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Abaddon to see if he's OK.
Abaddon is letting Henry control him for a moment.
More hug and hope from Henry.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Abaddon fakes the leg kick and cracks Henry in the body.
Henry connects with a leg kick. Abaddon looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Abaddon darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Henry looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Abaddon tries to move into range but Henry moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Abaddon tries a head kick but it misses.

Henry closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Abaddon to the mat! Abaddon manages to get full guard.
Abaddon is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Abaddon is trying to keep Henry in close.
Henry controls from within his opponent's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Abaddon is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Henry is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Abaddon can do to turn this around?

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Abaddon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Henry moves away.
Henry throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
It seemed like Abaddon was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

John Henry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Abaddon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Henry manages to get himself to full guard.

Henry's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Henry will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Henry closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Abaddon did well to prevent Henry getting side control.

Henry stuns Abaddon with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Henry feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Abaddons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Abaddon throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Henry feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Henry is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

John Henry showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Henry, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
