PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Royal Pain (ranked 1374 p4p, 169 weight class) and Ritchie Souza (ranked 1905 p4p, 228 weight class). Pain comes to the cage accompanied by AC/DC Thunderstruck. Souza has chosen Gwen Stefani-Luxurious as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Royal Pain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ritchie Souza!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pain looking to score a takedown here. Souza is defending well but Pain drives through and ends up in Souza's guard.

Souza has his foot on Pain's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pain works his way back into a safe position though.

Souza escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pain gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Pain is working Souza over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Pain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Souza swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pain is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Pain looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Souza wants to control but Pain is keeping busy.
Pain passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Souza!
Souza takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pain moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Souza has worked his arm free - good work by Souza!
Pain scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Souza to see if he's OK.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Royal Pain dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Souza tries to keep at a distance but Pain has taken the fight into the clinch.
Souza seems to have recovered his senses.
Pain stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Souza ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Souza no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Pain wants to control from the top but Souza keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
