The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newton tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Calharran was well out of range. Poor timing from Newton.
Calharran needs to keep his hands up - Newton had a free shot at his head there.
Nice shot lands for Newton.
Calharran gets caught flat footed, as Newton shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Calharran throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Calharran wants to sweep but no luck.
Calharran really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Newton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Newton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Newton drops back looking for a leg! Calharran is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Calharran manages to kick Newton off! Newton jumps back into Calharran's guard.
Newton passes Calharran's left leg - he's now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Newton has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Calharran defend it? Newton steps over the head and cranks it - Calharran is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Newton!
