Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Awut Smith (ranked 1543 p4p, 198 weight class) and Paea Talanoa (ranked 1786 p4p, 220 weight class). Smith comes into the arena with Ladies and Gentlemen blaring out of the sound system. Talanoa has chosen Tonga as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donk. Smith catches Talanoa right on the button with a cross.

It looks like Awut Smith has been cut.

A little feinted left hand from Smith on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Talanoa with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Smith to score with a decent uppercut.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Talanoa shoots in looking for a takedown but Smith manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Talanoa's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Smith fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Talanoa.

Talanoa changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smith tries to avoid it but Talanoa manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smith to the ground. Smith escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Talanoa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
