PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jermey Arnold (ranked 2893 p4p, 353 weight class) and Alexander Potter (ranked 2690 p4p, 337 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 41 - 29 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jermey Arnold!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Potter!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Potter dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Potter takes a swing at Arnold's ribcage but misses.
Potter tries to close the distance and clinch up but Arnold swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Arnold looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Arnold doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Potter throws a shot to the body.
Potter misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Arnold.
Arnold takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A jab from Arnold misses.
Potter only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Potter throws an off balance right hand
and Arnold counters with a straight right hand.

Potter has taken the fight to the clinch.
Potter is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Arnold pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Arnold tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Potter tries to pull guard but Arnold forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Potter managing to block the knees to the body from Arnold.
Arnold misses with a punch on the inside.
Arnold using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Potter has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Arnold tries to land a knee to the head but Potter blocks with his arms.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Arnold gets underhooks to prevent Potter's takedown attempt.
Jermey Arnold has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Potter.
A short right from Arnold.
Potter jumps guard but Arnold stands there with Potter around his waist. Potter gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A knee to the head by Arnold.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Arnold.
Potter tries to pull guard but Arnold holds him up against the cage and eventually Potter drops back down to his feet.
Potter jumps guard but Arnold turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Potter is pushing Arnold up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Potter avoiding damage.

Potter turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Potter manages to end up in side control.

Potter tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Arnold is trying to control Potter's posture but Potter avoids it.
Arnold is looking for a sweep.
Potter working away.
Potter working the head with strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Potter working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Potter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Arnold, who protects the arm well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Arnold is trying to improve his position.

Potter tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Potter has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
My spies in Gym inform me that Potter has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Potter working the strikes but Arnold uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Potter is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Arnold doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Potter.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Potter is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Potter not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Potter is trying to work for a kimura but Arnold is defending well.

Potter is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Arnold is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Alexander Potter!
Alexander Potter very nearly forgot to thank Urban Fighter amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
