PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between William Snowdon (ranked 345 p4p, 50 weight class) and Steve Butabi (ranked 1092 p4p, 136 weight class). Butabi has chosen Make That Money as his entrance music. Steve Butabi told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, William Snowdon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Steve Butabi!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Snowdon scores with a jab to the jaw.

Butabi throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Snowdon tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Butabi is in Snowdon's guard.

Snowdon seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Butabi trying to control the position from guard on top but Snowdon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Snowdon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Butabi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Butabi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Snowdon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Butabi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Butabi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Snowdon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Snowdon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Butabi's guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Butabi has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Butabi is trying to keep Snowdon in close.
Snowdon passes Butabi's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Still in half guard, Snowdon seems content to control.
Snowdon uses his free foot to push down on Butabi's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Butabi.
Butabi prevents Snowdon from taking his back.

Snowdon is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Butabi to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Butabi shrugs it off.
Butabi is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Snowdon is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Butabi is surviving well by controlling Snowdon's body position as best he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Butabi tries to hold on but Snowdon pushes him away.
Butabi is in all sorts of trouble here.
Butabi manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Snowdon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Butabi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Snowdon has managed to get both his arms back between Butabi's legs - danger averted.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Snowdon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Butabi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Butabi gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Butabi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Snowdon lands a leg kick that knocks Butabi off balance momentarily.
Nice takedown defense from Snowdon. No joy for Butabi on that attempt.
Snowdon is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Snowdon clobbers Butabi with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Snowdon takes a swing at Butabi's ribcage but misses.

Snowdon gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Butabi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Butabi wants to control from the top but Snowdon keeps moving.

Snowdon looking for a triangle here. Butabi is fighting it but it looks tight! Snowdon pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Butabi is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). William Snowdon!
