PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vojtech Brown (ranked 7110 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spas Spasov (ranked 23489 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vojtech Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Spas Spasov!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spasov shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Brown as he jumps to the side.
Spasov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brown tries to avoid it but Spasov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brown to the ground. Brown escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Spasov dives in and grabs Brown's left leg, looking for a takedown. Brown pushes down on Spasov's head and hops out.
Brown drops down looking for a counter takedown but Spasov sprawls and moves away.
Vojtech Brown has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Spas Spasov.
Brown takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spasov fails with a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spasov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Brown sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Spasov somewhat.
Brown half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Spasov will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
No luck for Spasov with that takedown attempt.
Nice takedown defense from Brown. No joy for Spasov on that attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Spasov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Brown sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Spasov somewhat.
Spasov closes the distance looking to clinch

and Brown decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Spasov's guard.
Spasov is looking to stand back up but Brown counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Spasov.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Brown thows a huge punch but Spasov dodges it nicely.
Spasov throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Brown lands a nice short elbow.

Brown is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Spasov is just riding it out for now. Brown eventually gives up the hold.
Brown not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Brown takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brown passes the guard and advances to mount!
Spasov can't escape the position.

Brown lands a heavy elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brown has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Brown lands a couple of good shots and Spasov has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Brown has the hooks in. Spasov is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Brown lands a nice shot to the head.

Brown moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Spasov has worked his arm free - good work by Spasov!
Brown wants to control but Spasov is keeping him busy.
Brown is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Spasov can do to turn this around?

Spasov is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

Brown is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Spasov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Brown goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Spasov has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Brown but great work by Spasov.

Spasov tries to advance to mount but Brown denies him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
You can see the frustration on Brown's face as Spasov controls the position.

Spasov doesn't manage to clinch there - Brown circles away.

Spasov shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Spasov throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Brown to regain full guard.

Spasov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Brown has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Spasov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Spasov postures up in Brown's guard and throws a big left but Brown blocks it.

Brown is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Spasov is aware though and is defending well.
Spasov makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Brown lands a couple of elbows.

Brown postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Spasov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Brown, into his guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Spasov stays in close to Brown's body and controls the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Spasov stands up and waves to Brown to follow him.
Spasov has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Brown is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Spasov feints and as Brown raises his hands in defense, Spasov changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Spasov won't allow Brown to sweep him here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Spasov tries to free his leg and advance position but Brown is retaining full guard.
Spas Spasov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Vojtech Brown is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Spas Spasov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Brown has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
