Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thad Thayer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Christian Baier!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thayer shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Baier lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Thayer throws a left and a right that both miss
and Baier connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Nice uppercut there from Baier.
Christian Baier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A head kick misses from Thayer.

Thayer closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Baier quickly recovers to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Thayer is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Thayer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Baier has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Thayer has managed to get both his arms back between Baier's legs - danger averted.

Baier is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Thayer defends well.

The fighters are battling for position here. Baier manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thayer wants to control from the top but Baier keeps moving.

Baier throws his legs up looking for a submission but Thayer uses it to pass to side control.

Thayer decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Thayer keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Thayer shoots for a takedown but Baier saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Baier is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Thayer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Baier swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Thayer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Baier's waist but Baier gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Thayer off to one side.

Thayer gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Thayer shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Baier as he jumps to the side.

Thayer lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Baier lands the left hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thayer avoids the body shot from Baier.
The fight stays on the outside here - Thayer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Thayer tries for a takedown but Baier sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Thayer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Baier is fending him off so far but Thayer persists. Nope, Baier circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Baier wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Thayer, who protects the arm well.
Thad Thayer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Thayer is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Thayer prevents Baier from improving position.
Thayer is looking for a sweep.

Thayer is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Baier is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Thayer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Baier tries to stand but Thayer controls the position and pulls Baier into his guard.

Baier might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
