Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bob Johnson (ranked 2846 p4p, 164 weight class) and Claudio Gadelha (ranked 3218 p4p, 185 weight class). Gadelha comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Melle Mel - Step Off kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Claudio Gadelha!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gadelha manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gadelha throws out a counter right but Johnson avoids it with no problem.
Johnson throws out a powerful jab.

and Johnson counters with a nice uppercut.

Gadelha throws out a loose jab but Johnson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Gadelha tries to clinch up but Johnson circles away and keeps his distance.

Gadelha drives through and clinches with Johnson against the cage.
Johnson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Johnson makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Gadelha stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

As Gadelha looks to move away, Johnson throws a big counter combo but Gadelha just gets out of the way.

And Gadelha tries to counter it with a takedown but Johnson pushes his down on his head and steps out.

The crowd cheers as Johnson lands an impressive looking overhand right. Gadelha doesn't seem phased though.
Gadelha scores with the left hand. Johnson knows he should have avoided that one.

Johnson has closed the distance and engaged Gadelha in a clinch.
Johnson lands a hook that snaps the head of Gadelha backwards.
Johnson throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Gadelhas head.
A short body shot lands from Johnson as the two fighters clinch.

Gadelha has Johnson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Gadelha pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Johnson tumbling to the mat - Gadelha dives into Johnson's guard.
Johnson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Johnson tries to get out of the position.
Gadelha advances to half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gadelha.
Johnson is looking to counter the offense by Gadelha and move into the clinch.

Gadelha feints and as Johnson raises his hands in defense, Gadelha changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gadelha is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Let's hope that Gadelha has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

My spies in Team Beta Fail inform me that Gadelha has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Gadelha has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Johnson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Gadelha yanks on the arm and Johnson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Gadelha.
