PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Miles North (ranked 1027 p4p, 122 weight class) and Renato Gracie (ranked 1364 p4p, 160 weight class). North's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Men at Work - Down Under. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Daniel Blasius and Paulsen Ambrosius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
North throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
North displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Gracie throws out the jab.
North throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Gracie counters with a stiff right hand.
North throws a nice outside leg kick.
North looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Gracie throws a hook but North blocks it.
North looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Gracie swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
North avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Gracie dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on North. That did some damage!
Gracie fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches North on the side of the head.

Gracie let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

North scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

North tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no North has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The referee asks North politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. North prefers to stall for the moment though.
North will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gracie avoids any damage from the ground and pound of North.
Gracie seems a little lost for a moment, as North dominates the positioning.
Gracie is looking for a sweep.

North creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gracie sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Gracie on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
We've been hearing good reports from North's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie is looking for a sweep.
North really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
North misses with the ground and pound.
North lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Gracie down.
Gracie holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.

Gracie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with North. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

North remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Gracie wants to control but North postures up.

The referee warns Gracie that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Miles North dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Gracie comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
North chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Gracie can pounce on him.
Renato Gracie seems to be getting the better of the standup.

North steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gracie.

Good leg kick by North there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

North lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
North shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gracie but Gracie pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miles North. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Gracie lands with a cross.
North shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gracie as he avoids it easily.
Gracie throws out a loose jab but North uses good head movement to avoid it.
North throws a low kick but it's checked well by Gracie.

North throws a leg kick but Gracie sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Gracie punishes North's body with a nice straight punch.
Gracie drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks North right on the button. North goes down! Gracie follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Gracie gets the win via TKO!
