PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Quin (ranked 1027 p4p, 124 weight class) and Mario Puzo (ranked 663 p4p, 84 weight class). Quin comes to the cage accompanied by Captain Jack - Iko Iko. Puzo has chosen Speak Softly Love as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 20 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Quin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 17 - 3, fighting out of New York, Mario Puzo!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Chris Edwards and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puzo with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Quin to score with a decent uppercut.

A telegraphed right hand from Quin misses the target.
Puzo throws a nice inside leg kick.
Quin swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Quin loads up on a big right hand but Puzo slips the punch.

Puzo gets caught napping as Quin dives in and scores a takedown. Puzo manages to retain guard.
Quin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Puzo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Quin is one step ahead there.

Puzo lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Quin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Quin is looking for a triangle but Puzo pushes his legs off easily.

Puzo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Puzo won't allow Quin to sweep him here.

Puzo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Quin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Donk. Quin catches Puzo right on the button with a cross.
Quin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Puzo manages to avoid it.

Quin fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Puzo looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Puzo looks to land a combination but Quin avoids it well.

Quin blocks a jab.
Puzo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Quin throws out the jab.
Quin throws a body punch but Puzo moves out of range.
Puzo lands the left hand.
Matt Quin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Quin lands a nice shot that snaps Puzo's head back.
Quin lands a jab to the head.
Puzo connects with a solid leg kick.
Puzo misses with a body shot.
Quin bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Puzo's head.
Puzo throws a jab but it's blocked by Quin.
Puzo lands a head kick. Quin smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Quin shoots in but Puzo avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Quin throws a lazy uppercut
and Puzo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Puzo avoids the body shot from Quin.
Despite the aggression on Puzo's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Puzo throws a jab when Quin was well out of range.

A looping hook to the body misses from Quin. Puzo does a little dance to reset his feet.

and Puzo counters with a nice kick to the body.

Quin throws the left hand but Puzo avoids the punch easily.
Quin lands with a straight right. Puzo didn't see that one coming.
Quin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Puzo slips a jab from Quin.
Puzo defending well as Quin loads up on a big left hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Matt Quin will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Puzo is looking to slow Quin down with leg kicks.
Quin clobbers Puzo with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Puzo thows a body kick. Quin tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Puzo throws a leg kick which misses Quin's front leg but catches the back leg as Quin tries to avoid it.
Puzo needs to keep his hands up - Quin had a free shot at his head there.

Quin drops down looking for a counter takedown but Puzo sprawls and moves away.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Quin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Puzo circles away quickly and effectively.
Puzo throws a fast counter high kick but Quin manages to duck under it in time.

Quin misses with a hook. Puzo ducked under it nicely.
Quin is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Puzo lands a really nice looking cross but Quin seems unphased.

Quin throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Puzo on the side of the head.
Puzo lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Puzo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Quin. That did some damage!
Quin throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Puzo sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Puzo connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Quin is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Quin feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Puzos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That kick from Puzo tenderised Quin's leg. Quin is trying to keep his angry face on.
Puzo throws a body punch but Quin moves out of range.

A little jabbing left from Puzo on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Quin takes a swing at Puzo's ribcage but misses.
Quin walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Quin loads up on a big right hand but Puzo slips the punch.
Puzo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Matt Quin will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Quin thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quin tries to move to mount but Puzo blocks the move with his legs.

Puzo holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Quin cracks Puzo with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Quin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Puzo has escaped the position, nice work there.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
Puzo is looking to reverse the position.
Mario Puzo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Puzo isn't going anywhere.
Quin taking a break here but Puzo is having none of it and regains half guard.
Puzo is trying to get back to full guard.
Quin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Puzo keeps working.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Matt Quin.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Quin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
