PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hyryx Dall (ranked 86 p4p, 13 weight class) and Matt Cooke (ranked 113 p4p, 17 weight class). Dall comes to the cage accompanied by Rattlesnake. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, Hyryx Dall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 9 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Matt Cooke!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dall throws a half hearted mid kick.
Dall lands with a nice body kick.
Dall scores with a push kick.
Dall looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Cooke takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Hyryx Dall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice uppercut lands for Dall. That snapped Cooke's head back.
Cooke moves out of range as Dall throws a body kick.
Cooke swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Cooke throws a jab but it's blocked by Dall.
We've been informed that Cooke has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Cooke counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Dall finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Cooke swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Dall misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Dall swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Dall thows a left - swing and a miss!
Cooke only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Cooke lands with a nice body punch.
Dall fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Cooke on the side of the head.

and Cooke connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


It looks like Hyryx Dall has been cut.
We've been hearing reports that Dall has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Dall lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Cooke connects with a right hand. Dall shakes it off.
A jab from Cooke does it's job there.
Dall waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Cooke.

Dall shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cooke defends it nicely.
A nice side step and Cooke releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

and Cooke cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Dall dips to his left and cracks Cooke with an uppercut!
No joy there for Cooke, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Cooke misses with a hook.

A looping hook to the body misses from Dall. Cooke does a little dance to reset his feet.
Cooke avoids a kick to the body.
Dall shoots in for a double leg but Cooke sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hyryx Dall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dall tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Matt Cooke is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The fighters circling - Dall throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Good leg kick by Dall there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Cooke displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Dall throws out the jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cooke. Dall does a little dance to reset his feet.
Dall lands a nice hook to Cooke's body. Cooke takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Dall takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Dall missing with a left hand there. Cooke was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Cooke misses the shot to the body.
Dall pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Cooke back to the cage. Dall follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
A jab lands there for Cooke.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dall misses the shot to the body.
Dall shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cooke sprawls well. Cooke wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dall gets slowly back to his feet.
Cooke flicks out a counter leg kick but Dall steps away.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Dall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cooke connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
A bone on bone clash there as Dall blocks the leg kick.
Dall just misses with a punch to the body.
Cooke looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Cooke might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Dall has got the better of the exchanges.
Dall goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A little jabbing left from Cooke on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Dall scores with a jab to the body.
Dall staying out of range there.
Dall seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Dall.
Cooke looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Cooke has Dall pulled in close to control his posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cooke keeping moving, preventing Dall from controlling successfully.
Dall is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Cooke is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Dall is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cooke can do to turn this around?
Dall is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Cooke wants to sweep but no luck.

Dall is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cooke is on top in guard.

Cooke slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cooke is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Dall shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

and Cooke takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Dall swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cooke scores with a jab. Dall acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dall feints and then cracks Cooke's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Cooke down.
Cooke slaps away a takedown attempt from Dall, before circling back to the center of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Matt Cooke will probably get the nod - 10:9.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Dall throws a body punch but Cooke moves out of range.
Dall throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dall tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cooke was well out of range. Poor timing from Dall.
Cooke lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Dall connects with a body shot.
Cooke throws out a loose jab but Dall uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dall misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Cooke counters with a slapping leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dall shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

Cooke drops his hands momentarily and Dall takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Dall thows a left - swing and a miss!
A punch lands to the side of Dall 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Dall ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cooke moves away.
Dall falls off balance throwing a combination
and Cooke counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cooke jabs Dall to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Cooke takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dall just misses with a punch to the body.
Cooke only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Dall shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cooke but Cooke pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Cooke! But no joy.

Dall feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Dall drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cooke manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dall has Cooke in his guard.

Dall is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cooke pulls his head out easily.

Cooke gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
An inside leg kick lands from Cooke.
Dall throws a leg kick
and Cooke makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Matt Cooke comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cooke has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
