PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sven Ludwig (ranked 551 p4p, 77 weight class) and Razza Matazz (ranked 1250 p4p, 166 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Matazz's choice of entrance music: Tool - Eulogy. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Razza Matazz!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ludwig swings for the body but Matazz moves out of range.
Matazz is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Matazz takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Ludwig connects with a leg kick. Matazz looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Matazz tries to bum rush Ludwig with a series of wild strikes but Ludwig uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ludwig lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Matazz does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
A looping hook to the body misses from Matazz. Ludwig does a little dance to reset his feet.
Matazz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ludwig moves out of range of the leg kick from Matazz.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Ludwig lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Matazz has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Matazz and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Ludwig seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ludwig connects with a nice short shot to Matazz's temple.
Ludwig is trying to control the action in half guard but Matazz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Ludwig has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Matazz throws a lazy right hand but Ludwig sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ludwig throws a quick counter kick to the body but Matazz avoids it.
Ludwig misses with a head kick.
Ludwig shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Matazz misses with a body kick.
Matazz bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Ludwig's head backwards.
Ludwig looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Matazz wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Ludwig lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

As Ludwig backs off Matazz throws a huge counter combo but Ludwig manages to avoid it all.

Sven Ludwig is winning the standup battle so far.
Matazz lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ludwig shoots in looking for a takedown but Matazz manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ludwig's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Matazz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ludwig.
Ludwig cracks Matazz with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Ludwig tries to close the distance and clinch but Matazz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Matazz throws out a counter right but Ludwig avoids it with no problem.

Ludwig throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Matazz's waist but Matazz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ludwig off to one side.

Ludwig wants the takedown. Matazz is fighting it off but Ludwig persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Matazz's guard against the cage.

Matazz catches Ludwig with a right, a left, a right. It's raining punches and Ludwig forgot an umbrella! Another punch and he's down. This one is over!

In his post fight interview, Razza Matazz started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
